Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has said the Trump administration will buy more buildings in Chicago for Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials.
During a cabinet meeting on Thursday, Noem said more buildings were purchased “to operate out of.”
“We’re purchasing more buildings in Chicago to operate out of,” Noem said to President Trump during the meeting. “We’re going to not back off. In fact, we’re doubling down and we’re going to be in more parts of Chicago in response to the people there.”
“I was there a few days ago and looked at some facilities that we can deploy more law enforcement out of,” Noem said. “Because what they’re trying to do with these riots and violence is distract us and keep us from going after those murderers and rapists that are out on the streets.”
While Noem did not specify which buildings will be bought by the administration, she told ICE officials and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents at the immigration processing facility in Broadview, Ill., on Friday, “We’re going to try to buy that building today,” while pointing at a building nearby, the Chicago Tribune reported.
The Hill has reached out to DHS for comment.

I believe those have to come before Judicial review. As the Judiciary, on so many levels is rife with TDS, I doubt he would get a favorable outcome.
This may -or may not- be good.
Property developers are \notoriously\ tied to the Chicago administration for their bread and butter.
Johnson holds all of their cards using Section 8 funds.
The developers may demand excessively high values for the properties.
Hopefully, Trump can use his network to find friendly PropDevs in Chicago... and they do exist.

Eminent Domain could be used if there were an unwilling seller. Sounds like the owner is (probably more than) willing, which is a Good Thing. (Also, just compensation would be due the owner, regardless...)

what i’ve been thinking too ... of course, the Feds are still required to pay fair market value for seized properties, as is the case with all eminent domain actions by any government ...
There's also an empty juvy detention center in St. Charles, right on Route 38. We pass it both ways to and from Costco.

I’d rather have my tax dollars spent on this than sent to Ukraine to fight a proxy war with Russia, and not know where a penny of those billions actually went.
Sell the federal buildings in DC too. But now that she told the world about it, the market is going to mysteriously dry up.
