Who Was Colonel Harland Sanders?
At the age of 40, Harland Sanders was running a popular Kentucky service station that also served food—so popular, in fact, that the governor of Kentucky designated him a Kentucky colonel. Eventually, Sanders focused on franchising his fried chicken business around the country, collecting a payment for each chicken sold. The company went on to become the world's largest fast-food chicken chain, Kentucky Fried Chicken. Sanders died in Louisville, Kentucky, on December 16, 1980.

My dad was from Nebraska and made a Kentucky Colonel.
It has been estimated there have been around 300,000 Kentucky Colonels. He was also a Mason, Scottish Rite 33 degree. He was raised in Washington DC.
When you’ve got a good franchise, KFC is something to dream about. Unfortunately, all the restaurants around us here in MA seem to be owned by one group and DEI staffed. The dried out chicken makes restaurant chicken look great. Heartbreaking because we keep hoping and keep going back saying This Time Will Be Different.
“Frying under pressure enables faster cooking at lower oil temperatures than in a conventional deep fryer. A pressure fryer ensures that moisture and flavor are sealed in while excess cooking oil is sealed out.”
Interesting.

There used to be a place in Thurmont, Maryland that served chicken cooked that way. Legend has it the Secret Service guys and lots of famous people, including Churchill, used to go there when they were staying at Camp David. I think they closed about 10 years ago; but there’s another restaurant up there doing chicken the same way.

Mighty Mint in NC was better.
Scoots in Virginny has KFC beat but they only make it up special for catered events.
There was a Bernie Sanders’ restaurant on Wilshire Blvd. in LA near the Petersen Auto Museum, but it closed. A number of homeless people camped nearby when I was in LA.
The basement of the Petersen Auto Museum is well worth a rather expensive visit. It is a better value than the main part of the museum.
KFC is pretty good. I grew up in the Chicago area, and we had Church’s Fried Chicken in town and it always tasted better than KFC to me.
I tried Popeye’s for the first time at their shop located (then) next to the Greyhound Bus Station in downtown Chicago. This was back when Popeye the Sailor was still the mascot. IIRC it wasn’t bad.The best chicken I’ve tried in the states is Gus’s in Memphis, TN.
Most of the Asian countries where I’ve lived are big KFC fans. South Korea has the overall best chicken in the world The best chain store chicken I’ve had was at Popeye’s in the Busan, ROK train station, but the best overall fried chicken i’ve ever eaten was bought from a little old Grandma with her Hibachi out front of the baseball stadium in Daegu, ROK. Heavenly.
Now, I’m hungry! Cheers!
Are you thinking of thr Cozy Restaurant?
Yes! That’s it.
Harland making chicken
I knew that had to be your post before even seeing your nick, Hale!! 😂
As a kid I remember a bunch of restaurants in Western Maryland. Barbra Fritchie closed a while back after over 100 years but the Tortuga is still open, but a look at the website shows it changed from a HOJO type joint to some asian fusion thing.
Do you like chickens, peejay?
