Canadian Whiskey Brand To Close Ontario Plant, Move Operations To US

Elbows up, Canada!

Crown Royal bottler closing down Ontario plant, moving operations to U.Shttps://t.co/KBqv7HZVRi— Global News Toronto (@globalnewsto) August 28, 2025

That's right: The Canadian whiskey company is moving more of its operations to the U.S. to better help its "supply chain network."

The company said it will still maintain a 'significant' footprint in Canada — including its headquarters and warehouse operations in the Greater Toronto Area, and bottling and distillation facilities in Manitoba and Quebec.

McIntosh added the company's Crown Royal products will continue to be mashed, distilled and aged at its Canadian facilities.

200 jobs will be affected.

Meanwhile, Ontario Premiere Doug Ford said Wednesday that bans on U.S. alcohol will continue as retaliation for the Trump administration's tariffs.

It's still going to be banned until they cut the tariffs or we make a deal with them. It's not coming on our shelves.

Cue the comment section:

Meanwhile, Americans have thoughts:

Americans feel quite passionately about their whiskey!

My Irish Grandfather used to tell a joke about an Irishman who saw a billboard that said:

“DRINK CANADA DRY”

So he went north, and did exactly that.

When my father in-law died, my mother in-law gave me a large unopened bottle of Crown Royal that they bought at Niagara Falls, the label was dated 1968. This was in 1998, 30 years later. I sipped it from whiskey glasses for almost 5 years, it was that good. Maybe it’s me, but it doesn’t seem to be quite the same, not as smooth. Could have been the age, I guess. I’m really a bourbon fan, but a rye tastes pretty good now and then.

More for us! :)

I have a small bottle of Crown Royal with the old ‘liquor stamp’ on it. Dad bought it when I was born in 1960. Haven’t had any reason to open it - maybe when I hit 100? LOL! Maybe I’ll send it to President Trump! :)

I’ve always assumed Canada’s alcohol industry was propelled because of US prohibition. If so, time to unwind it.

Hmmm... Their Crown Royal Blackberry whisky is pretty good. (Too bad they won’t get any Gentleman Jack for themselves.) Lol.

I prefer single Malts from Scotland over North American blends. I hope Trump doesn’t screw with Scotch.

If it was Whistle Pig Rye whiskey I would care more. Expensive, but tasty.

I hunted bears there in the early 80s. The owner’s of the place I stayed at always wanted me to bring a bottle of spirits for them. Duties or something, who knows. Bet there pissed now.

Glad they’re doing the smart thing for U.S. but all things considered I would rather they’d kept the current plant AND expanded here.

Back in the 80's the Canadians wanted U.S. Whiskey and Americans wanted Canadian beer, That was when Brador and Export were something like 5-6% alcohol and U.S. beer was 4. I forget the reasoning around the Whiskey.

I recall hand importing Brador into the US back in the mid 1980s.

I just purchased a 12 pack of Canadian migrants earlier today and I’ll soon take them to the local lake and feed some fish.

Make it in Canada for canadians, by canadians.

Make it in america for americans, by americans.

Very Catholic. Local. More responsive.

I had a friend who has passed give me 50 bottles of wine once. Yippee, lol. Included was an old fancy whiskey style bottle of Budweiser. It was so good...

One of the bottles of wine was a 1978 Saint-Louis Beaujolais from France.

I almost hurt myself carrying it all, lol.
