In 30 years' time, bones such as these may come into play in territorial claims for this pristine wilderness.

Legalisms like this have always been a theater of the absurd. If they were observed, the Spanish would have a claim on the entire Pacific Coast up to Queen Charlotte Island. Ownership of property starts with continuous occupation and use.

I am going to be culturally indelicate so the easily offended people should probably leave now.

Okay. Now that they have left, the women, and there were probably more then one, were not there to hunt seals. They were there to process the catch, cook, maintain the camp and provide for the hunters.... other needs.

Allright I’m in as long as Admr. Byrd, Nazi, and alien crap are not involved.

Everything else, yeah.

Well she could have been married to one of the men on the expedition and then met an untimely demise. It's more likely, an indigenous woman from southern Chile was a camp follower who saw an opportunity to make some money from the expedition.

Just because someone died there does not mean their claim has merit. It means that someone was either ship wrecked or tried to live their and failed. The governments of Chile and Argentina are new. They have no rights to things they can’t/didn’t hold. Mongols wants controlled Hungry. They have no rights to it now.

Possible but unlikely.

They would have brought only one type of women with them. The ones that, because of age or defect, could not have children.

A fecund female was treasured in tribal culture because only through them could the tribe live into the future. They were not to be taken into danger and taking them to a seal hunting camp was indeed dangerous.

We have lived with surplus for so long we do not understand how they would have viewed things at that time.

She was abducted and enslaved to cook.

She was Shewoman, Amazon Warrior.

She was an early feminist and the men quickly tired of her bxtching.

I'm thinking the US Navy, specifically the attack subs, have a whole lot to say about who controls Antarctica.
