Rare snow in Australia as Antarctic chill sweeps eastern states

Temperatures have plummeted to more than 10 degrees below average in places, while Sydney has had its coldest July weather in 44 years now has fallen in parts of Australia where such falls are so rare the weather bureau does not have the tools to measure it as temperatures plunged to more than 10 degrees below average.

Antarctic air pushed up through central New South Wales and on to Queensland – known as the Sunshine State – over the past week bringing on a winter cold front not seen in some parts since the mid-1980s.

In Queensland, snow fell in Stanthorpe, Eukey and on the south east border with NSW, but Bureau of Meteorology (Bom) forecaster Gorrdon Banks said the bureau was having trouble measuring it. “We don’t actually measure the depth of snow fall, it’s so rare here in Queensland that really all we have to go on are rain gauges,” he said. “We didn’t really have any official observations that snow was recorded, just reports from the public and just from the vision, I think we can say it was in the range of 2 to 5cm [one to two inches].”

Queensland has not seen snowfall such as this since 1984 and it has also recorded some of it lowest temperatures for July in more than 30 years with some areas near the border dropping to -4 degrees (24.8 °F).

Thanks. Beautiful! We were there last summer. Rivals most peaks here in Colorado.

Height: 13,700 feet. Not including below the ocean which adds another 20,000 feet for a total of 33,000 feet.

It actually depends on what you're accustomed to.For example, last winter was the worst one (snow-wise) that the Boston area has ever had.The city was tied up in knots...particularly the transportation system. But if you look at the stats you see that our horrible winter is what Buffalo gets *every* winter.

I am happy that certain parts of Australia got a "taste of snow."

Snow is a very good thing, in moderation. If you have never built a snowman or made a snow angel, then you have not fully lived.

Uh..did these scientific minds forget that when it is summertime north of the equator that it is wintertime in the south?

During the course of my day at work I check on the news from a few “mainstream” websites. I don’t want to venture beyond these since I’m not sure if I’m being watched.

So, I go to Google, Yahoo and Bing news sites and will always click into the sub categories including their “science” section.

They all contain the obligatory “climate change” stories but Google seems to go out of their way to include more than the other sites. They seem much more consistent to make sure they have “climate change” stories literally every day.

Everyday, day after day they take one “study” after another and leverage it into weeks of stories that have inevitably been picked up by other “news” outlets. And Google, more than any other “news” portal will make sure you know that man is destroying the planet because the “Scientists” say so.

Everyday and all day with absolutely zero counterclaims unless it is to ridicule them.

Pounding away at their viewers with no regard for those that have the capacity to understand both the “science” and the politics that is being presented.

Paradoxically, Google seeks to hire the most intelligent, the most creative candidates among us, as long as they fit into the ideological box they have created.

And it’s not just Google, to be sure.

It’s everywhere.

Expressing any of the fundamental traits of what science has been built, skepticism for one, will get you nowhere and likely fired.

I’ll make a prediction before I read further: this was caused by global warming.
