Antarctica: Mystery continent holds key to mankind's future (Grant Alert)

DECEPTION ISLAND, Antarctica (AP) — Earth's past, present and future come together here on the northern peninsula of Antarctica, the wildest, most desolate and mysterious of its continents.

Clues to answering humanity's most basic questions are locked in this continental freezer the size of the United States and half of Canada: Where did we come from? Are we alone in the universe? What's the fate of our warming planet?

"It's a window out to the universe and in time," said Kelly Falkner, polar program chief for the U.S. National Science Foundation.

For a dozen days in January, in the middle of the chilly Antarctic summer, The Associated Press followed scientists from different fields searching for alien-like creatures, hints of pollution trapped in pristine ancient ice, leftovers from the Big Bang, biological quirks that potentially could lead to better medical treatments, and perhaps most of all, signs of unstoppable melting. The journey on a Chilean navy ship along the South Shetland islands and vulnerable Antarctic Peninsula, which juts off the continent like a broken pinky finger, logged 833 miles (1,340 kilometers) and allowing the AP team a firsthand look at part of this vital continent.

Listen up, you Right Wing Agitator!

Grants for study of Antarctica must be increased immediately. Immediately, I say! Don't you understand? Due to Global Warming, the Antarctic Ice Fields are growing. If we don't get down there immediately, they will cover the whole damn place!

I hope this is not too nuanced for you. Besides, the jobs created will fit in with out "Jobs for ISIS" Program! That is why you should welcome the chance to contribute more tax money. The consensus of science is in ... it is for the children.

Just proves that there's no upper limit on how high you can stack crap :)

“CO2, the warming causing gas”

/ sigh

Actually Mr. non-scientist, WATER VAPOR is the single most active green house gas, and we’d be the ice planet Hoth without it.

Hey, I want I grant. From the comfort of my living room I'll investigate old sci-fi moves that have themes dealing with discoveries in the Antarctic. The grant must include an unlimited supply of pizza. A mere $100,000 should cover it for six months of intensive work. Certainly a bargain, after all it may help stop global warming, and "its for the children".

What's the fate of our warming planet?

Antarctica is the engine for the Earths' ability to cool itself. The cooled ice melt creates an oceanic river of cooled water that travels deep and away from Antarctica. In fact, it flows in a way that acts as the refrigerated coolant for the entire world. Without it we would go the way of Mars.

And yet somehow we are all supposed to believe the crap that we are going to be destroyed because of "global warming."

The Earth is so large and it's interacting systems are so dynamic that the only people who could possible believe a canard like "global warming" or "global freezing" are world-class fools.

There is no better “science writer” liar out there than Sethy, who on behalf of fake science and government paid fraudsters spout these constant exaggerations about AGW.

Was just reading the same article at another source and Borenstein as usual cannot help himself when it comes to weaving in AGW into every most every article even when it’s not called for.

This is the kind of stuff he writes for the AP - and when you see his name you are wasting time reading it, junk like this:

“What’s the fate of our warming planet?

how high seas will rise with global warming.

Antarctic ice sheet has started melting irreversibly, what happens here will determine if cities such as Miami, New York, New Orleans, Guangzhou, Mumbai, London and Osaka will have to regularly battle flooding from rising seas.”

Better them than me; it's up all the way to 14 degrees here, which would be a rather balmy day there. Ship 'em off and let them enjoy it!

But, is it sustainable?

I shall be pleased to answer any questions from the Right after grant monies have been received and our Antarctica Project is fully funded. I can tell you that sustainability is certainly a major concern, as most certainly is diversity, including bio-diversity, because as you know, without sustainability and diversity, women, children, and members of minority groups suffer most.

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer. No White Men Need Apply.

Well smack me upside head! I overlooked diversity. Thank you for the correction. Funds are on the way to invest in this important project for the future of winter (and wimmins and chilruns).
