Hall of Fame Chairman of the Board Jane Forbes Clark issued a statement on Tuesday regarding MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred's policy decision about individuals losing their permanently ineligible status after death.
"The National Baseball Hall of Fame has always maintained that anyone removed from Baseball’s permanently ineligible list will become eligible for Hall of Fame consideration," Clark said in the statement. "Major League Baseball’s decision to remove deceased individuals from the permanently ineligible list will allow for the Hall of Fame candidacy of such individuals to now be considered. The Historical Overview Committee will develop the ballot of eight names for the Classic Baseball Era Committee – which evaluates candidates who made their greatest impact on the game prior to 1980 – to vote on when it meets next in December 2027."

Thank you very much and God bless you.
I wrote this about 15 years ago, I've posted it before, so here it is again.
Message Body
From the time he broke into the majors in 1963 until he retired in 1986, Rose amassed 4,256 hits (1st all- time), 746 doubles (2nd all-time) and 2,165 runs (fifth all-time). He played for three World Series Champions, and was named the MVP of the 1975 Series. Those are un-godly numbers. They are the numbers of a Hall of Famer. Unfortunately, he also ignored Major League Baseball's Rule 21 (d)
Rule 21 (d) is posted on the clubhouse door in every major league stadium, and has been for years. Rose probably walked by those signs 15,000 times during his career.
Rule 21 (d), which states: d) BETTING ON BALL GAMES. Any player, umpire, or club official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has no duty to perform shall be declared ineligible for one year. Any player, umpire, or club or league official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has a duty to perform shall be declared permanently ineligible.
It doesn't say... unless you've got 4000 hits or 700 home runs or won 300 games or have 3000 strike outs. It says ANY PLAYER....He chose to ignore the signs, he chose to bet on baseball, and he's being punished in accordance with the rule. He also chose to lie about his actions for 14 years, and even after acknowledging them, still doesn't seem to understand that his mistake wasn't failing to apologize sooner. It's that he bet on baseball in the first place. How gutless.
So it’s like the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame now? Eventually everyone will get a trophy.
wait just a tomatoe pickin minute!@ Joe biden is the original ‘shoeless Joe’ who used to walk to school barefoot, in the snow, 10 miles, uphill both ways! He and popcorn ruled the roost!
AAaaaaaaaahhhhhhh
...and it’s Corn Pop
Seems like they could have done this a long time ago. Shoeless Joe Jackson’s been dead since 1951. Pete Rose just last year. I think President Trump’s comments about Pete Rose woke some people up.
oh yeah, popcorn was his dyslexic brother lol
Cap Anson, who more than anyone else barred blacks from the big leagues, is still in, so morality obviously doesn’t matter.
I have no inside information, but the longer the Rose-saga took to play out, the more obvious it was that the plan was to induct Pete AFTER he died. Pete constantly lied and misrepresented what he had done after he was caught dead to rights. I think that it was quite reasonable under those circumstances to deny him the right to give an induction speech.
The bar has been lowered so much it’s irrelevant anyway.
Don’t know about Jackson. I say f them both. Trump will be more forgiving.
Both Alex Karras and Paul Hornung were "SUSPENDED" for gambling on NFL games in 1963 while active players and both are in the NFL Hall of Fame.......
Go figure.......
So save your pathetic pout for someone who cares..........Sheesh!
Quote “ I’m all for Shoeless Joe Jackson being allowed to enter MLB Hall of Fame, but not Pete Rose.”
Whoa. Can’t see why one would be fine and the other not. Shoeless Joe took money and threw his performance in a game he actually played in. I know, I know, many say he took only a little money and didn’t alter his performance. But evidence on both sides exists.
Rose bet money on baseball games as a manager and on the teams he managed.
Rose always maintained he bet on his team to win. Still, no excuse.
Having said all that, they both did the crime and more than did the time. It’s time to put both in the Hall.
I agree Shoeless Joe deserves to be in. Ever since I saw him come through that cornfield and play ball with Kevin Costner, I have supported him for the Hall. It was great of him to show us how good he was!
Shoeless Joe never took a dime of money, hit over .300 for the series, but was suspended for life because he knew about his teammates plot to throw the 1919 World Series and never said anything about it.
I believe you’re wrong. Shoeless Joe never took a dime of money, hit over .300 for the series, but was suspended for life because he knew about his teammates plot to throw the 1919 World Series and never said anything about it.
I also think that Pete Rose should be in the HoF. I just think that MLB was correct to wait until he had died. Pete was a constant embarrassment to MLB and it wasn’t just the gambling. There was a credible sexual assault allegation. Then there was the conviction for tax evasion which sent Pete to prison.
I also happen to think that PED’s go back way further than is currently thought. Look at pictures of Pete Rose when he was a rookie with the Reds. Pete was a gym rat when he was with the Phillies — which was pretty peculiar in the early 80’s for any baseball player. Mike Schmidt did more than defend Pete, he actually seemed to minimize what Pete did. I find that peculiar too.
Pete should be in the HOF. He was suspended from playing but he still amassed a credible record for HOF entry.
Or at least change his title to something more resepectful. I suggest "Discalced Joe Jackson".
