Officials identified a body found in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area over the weekend as Dr. Shawn Frehner, a high-profile veterinarian who has been missing since April 6.

The National Park Service began a search at Lake Mead after Frehner’s keys, wallet, and cellphone were found in his truck parked at Hemmenway Harbor on April 7. According to NPS, his body was found near the Boulder Islands within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area on April 18.

On April 19, the Clark County coroner’s office confirmed Frehner’s identity through dental records. His cause and manner of death were not released, and additional details were not immediately available.

Earlier this month, Frehner apologized and admitted to kicking a horse he had been paid to administer anesthetic shots to at a Nevada property. Frehner issued an apology after video of the incident went viral.

“I did not blatantly haul off and kick this horse as it appears in the video. That was not my intention at all,” Frehner wrote. “It was done simply to get the horse in a better position so that he could breathe and get up and move so I could again try to anesthetize.”

“But yes, I did kick him right in the chin, and I very much do apologize and wish this never happened,”

a single moment caught on video and posted online can define and destroy your entire life.

Horses are dangerous to work with. A veterinian in our town was kicked in the head and killed a few years ago.

I would personally have given the guy the benefit of the doubt.

Cue Lieutenant Columbo and his rickety French car. He will solve this in one episode.

One of my grandfathers, an Iowa farmer and quite a large man, was somewhat famous locally for once having knocked a horse down with his fist. He was a very nice and mild-tempered guy, but apparently the horse managed to tick him off.

I didn’t see the video but, the idea that a man can hurt a horse by kicking it is silly. Karens everywhere.

Had an Amish client that trained buggy horses for other Amish.

He had one horse that kept laying down, which can be very dangerous if he lays down while hooked to a buggy. It will flip the buggy and can injure or kill the passengers.

He tried everything to get this horse to stand up, short of using the electric shocker which was the absolute last resort as it can traumatize the horse and lead to bigger problems.

Frustrated, he remembered a trick his grandfather told him. He rolled up a newspaper, stuffed it under the horses back end, and lit it on fire. Immediately, the horse jumped up to his feet with no harm done.

Problem was that an English (Anyone that is not Amish) neighbor saw this and as an animal lover, filmed him lighting the newspaper and she turned the video over to the police.

He had a lot of “splaining” to do, but it worked out ok as the horse wasn’t harmed.

A guy I once worked with was from rural Kentucky and his father was a big, burly rough-and-tumble type. He got kicked in the head by a mule one day and everybody thought he was dead. They took his body to his house and after a few hours he came to, good as new.

Anyone who has worked training horses for years has been mad enough to kick them if horses weren’t so darn tall. If not, they are lying.

My horses got out and in the middle of the night and were on my neighbor’s back patio kicking their trash cans around. We keep their feed in a trash can!
