New research is bad news for vegans β€” even if you eat plant-based protein

Hold the tofu.

New research suggests that vegans may be more likely to suffer from nutritional deficiencies than their meat-eating

Worse still, scientists found that even vegans who hit their daily protein goals with plant-based sources often fall short on two essential amino acids, putting their health at risk.

In the US, an estimated 1% to 5% of the population follows a vegan diet, which eliminates all animal products, including meat, dairy and eggs.

Over the years, researchers have found that following a plant-based diet can reduce the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and some cancers, as well as help with weight management.

In fact, one study found that eating a vegan diet can improve your health in just four weeks.

But meat-eaters have long argued that animal products provide essential nutrients β€” particularly proteins, vitamins and minerals β€” that are tough to get in sufficient quantities from a plant-based diet.

A new six-month study out of Australia might just support that claim.

Researchers tracked the diets of 240 adults, aged 30 to 75, ranging from strict vegans and dairy-eating vegetarians to good old-fashioned meat lovers.

I use pea protein which is an almost complete protein. Hemp protein supplies the missing amino acids and the what pea protein is low in. Thomas Delauer (you tube) is where I learned this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjUE7GseF-A

You can buy his product or DIY. The mix is 80% pea protein to 20% hemp protein. Two diff AI searches say this and 75/25 are the optimum.

nuts are plant based

its good that you eat fish

it is a source of b12

“The foods containing vitamin B12 are primarily animal meat, fish, eggs, and dairy”

b12 deficiency leads to some nasty diseases

i asked a vegan once what she did for b12

i got a blank stare

Yes we are. We are designed by our creator to almost anything but meat is a vey element.

"carnivore- an animal that eats meat:
Lions and tigers are carnivores.
humorous I made mostly vegetarian food, but put a couple of meat dishes out for the carnivores (= people who eat meat)."

Perhaps elderly vegans don’t need caretakers or caseworkers.

Hard to attain does not mean impossible to attain. As I said, you must do the research into how to get everything you need. Plenty of people who choose veganism do not do that, hence the anemia.

I didn't say vegans CAN avoid all those substances you mentioned. I said they avoid meat and dairy because they DO have those substances. Should they eat nothing because those substances are in everything?

The standard American diet has brought us to, roughly, 30 percent of us being obese and/or diabetic from being fat ... and yet you decry a different way of eating.

I get it, you disagree. Fine. I'm agnostic one way or another. But the way we are eating now is making us sick. Let other people eat a different way. It's no skin off your ass.

Not that I know of.

What I'm saying is that the hospitals are full of sick people and they're likely on the standard American diet because percentage wise veganism is a tiny percentage of people.

Are there studies that vegans, vegetarians and plant based dieters in general have lower rates of chronic disease ?

Probably thousands.

I didn't know that vegans don't consume sugar.

Some of the most harmful things a person can ingest are embraced as "vegan". Plant based "milk", fruit smoothies, energy bars, fruit yogurt, coconut sugar, brown rice syrup, plant-based margarine, rice cakes, dried raisins, sports drinks, and breakfast cereal will make you obese where meat will not. I've seen vegan salads with 1,400 calories per serving.

The topic was veganism versus eating meat. Sugar wasn't a part of the conversation.

Some Freepers post really ugly things about the Catholic Church, even that it's Satanic or the Antichrist.

But I can't tell you who those anti-Cathlics are -- because I don't remember their handles. I simply post my disagreement or ignore them. Either way, I then forget about it.

I don't take down names, compile an enemies list, follow them around, and obsess over them. That would be deeply neurotic.

Man has eaten meat for thousands of years and the 30 percent of Americans who are obese didn't get that way from eating meat.

Let's start with the parts of the food poison pyramid full of grains and other non-meat consumables.

“Man is a carnivore. That is how we evolved. Ignore truth at your peril”

No man and all other of the Sapiens are omnivores, and until very recently in geological time were scavengers. Humans only developed mass hunting skills in the last 50,000 years at best we have been humans for five times as long and our predecessor Homo.Sapian vs modern Homo.Sapian.Sapian goes back over a million years, with the Homo genus line going back 5 million more. This is clearly biologically evident by our stomach acid continent being strong enough to kill bacteria and digest small bones. Our HCL ph2 or under in our stomachs rival that of true scavengers. We were gatherers and scavengers for most of our existence the hunter part only after we evolved larger brain cases and spears, then atlatls ,then bows with anything other than spears being a 17,000-20000 year old advancement. It was far easier to scavenge a recent kill by scarring off a true predator and taking the left overs than trying to run down an animal twice or three times as fast on foot with spears.

Our teeth also are not any where near obligate carnivore in structure just having canines is not an indicator of obligate carnivorous dental sstructure. We have incisor teeth and grinding molars both of which are designed for cutting and grinding plant matter. Look at a cats mouth it’s teeth are obligate carnivore teeth we lack teeth like that.

Fact is we are omnivores and our digestive track is set up for that specifically. We can digest whole scraps like fish heads and small fish entirely bones and all. Contrary to the we will not eat ze bugs Qtards humans do eat bugs have in large quantities for all of our existence , their exoskeleton are perfectly digestible in human stomach acid , ever seen an Asian eat shrimp or a crab? Yeah shell and all without a care in the world. Andrew Zimmer n says get down on them like a sea otter he is of course right.

Embrace what evolution has given us a wonderful and capable digestive system that makes nearly every form of protein be it animal, plant, decapod, arthropod, cephalopod all digest in HCL based systems. We can use nearly every sugar and starch too, HCL breaks starches into sugars quite well. We have an appendix it’s vestigial now but in other mammals it forms the hind gut where symbiotic bacteria live that can digest cellulose. Horses, pigs and rabbits have functional hind guts. Thus indicating at some point in our past the Homo genus had the ability to digest cellulose materials as well. We could with GMO bacteria add the cellulase enzyme pproduction capability to human gut track gram negative bacterial mass. This would inoculate that person to be able to digest cellulose into sugars once again , eating salads would not be low kcal anymore as the leaves would be turned to sugars in your intestines by the bacterial mass. Think space travel as a war never taking animals into deep space the mass balance and feed ,water, oxygen and housing volume requirements due to physics will not allow it.

America is fat because America eats too much ... of everything. Meat, cheese, pasta, bread, beer, ice cream, vegan or nonvegan ... whatever.

Cryptic diversity of cellulose-degrading gut bacteria in industrialized humans

There is no doubt we are losing the microbes that turn fiber into food for a healthy gut. How can urban dwelling industrialized humans counteract this evolutionary decline? Eat more fiber !
