A KTN is a code given to trusted travelers who enroll in programs such as TSA PreCheck or Global Entry.
Enrollment involves online applications, in-person interviews, and paying the application fee.
Trusted Traveler Programs offer benefits like expedited security screening and streamlined entry into the US.......
Military and Department of Defense civilians
Military and DoD Civilians receive TSA PreCheck as a benefit of their employment and service. This includes all service members of all components of the armed forces, students at the armed forces' service academies, Federal civil service employees, and non-appropriated fund (NAF) civilians. Your DoD ID number, which can be found on the back of your Common Access Cards, serves as your KTN.
To enjoy the benefits, military members must update their Defense Travel system profile and airline loyalty profile with their DoD ID number in the Known Traveler Number field. On the other hand, DoD Civilians first need to opt in via milConnect and then update their Defense Travel System profile and airline frequent flyer profile with their DoD ID number in the KTN field. You should also confirm your DoD ID number is in the KTN field when booking travel.

If the article is accurate, it sounds like she’d have to be in the military herself, not just a spouse with a military ID to get this benefit
Great article.
How to get a known traveller number?
Get a known traveller number.
Hey thanks for the info!
First I heard of this. I know there’s a legion of “Fellow Travelers” in too many positions of authority.
The hoops outlined here and the gyrations/humiliations TSA puts people through just to use airline travel galls the hell out of me after learning the Usurper Regime waived all that for illegal aliens who got to board (free) with stuff like arrest warrants as documentation.
We have TSA numbers. They are useful
Global Entry makes international travel less painful when returning to the US. At DFW there was no line, they just scan your face, say welcome home and you’re on your way.
It’s a hassle to get one but if you have ever been screwed with by TSA you would say it’s worth it.
I started the process years ago and then realized I never go anywhere.
If you have a TWIC you also have a KTN.
Disembarking from last half a dozen cruises have all been face recognition procedure, making the process very fast.
I love it. Gone are the days when getting off the ship was painfully slow.
Actually you can go down to Staples and sign up for the KTN. Need to take birth certificate and State ID. Not too much of a hassle.
And you can get in the shorter security line at the airport. And not have to take off your shoes. But it is about $80.
“But it is about $80.”
True, but it’s good for 5 years.
A little harder here in Mi. You have to go to a designated office with an appointment. Takes 4-6 weeks and about $50.00. Worth it l think.
CPB One?

TSA Precheck is worth every penny.
