Astronomers have just revealed that a day on Uranus is longer than was previously thought, at 17 hours, 14 minutes and 52 seconds.
This is 28 seconds longer than the previous estimate, which was made by NASA's Voyager 2 probe during its flyby of the ice giant planet back in 1986.
The new figure—which is 1,000 times more accurate—was calculated based on a decade's worth of observations of Uranus's aurorae made by NASA/ESA's Hubble Space Telescope.
The long-term data on the planet's auroral emissions enabled the researchers to track the positions of the planet's magnetic poles and, by extension, its inner rotation rate.

Interesting about the rotating poles inside Uranus...Is anyone else uncomfortable about that?
That’s why you should get up and walk around every now and then.
Too easy.

I hope they all dont hurt themselves patting ehemselves on the back... Huge Scientific Revelation goin on here!! Whats the Nobel equivalent in Space Science!?? Definately should be awarded here!!
Just how long is a day on Uranus?
Time passes slower when you are on Uranus.
Does this coincide with the release of planetary gasses such as methane and hydrogen disulfide?
It’s due to Trump’s tariffs. Very serious indeed.
Quite sure I’m not on Uranus!
PLEASE, let's do the Hubble Space Telescope upgrade and repair. Musk has already stated he would donate the rocket and launch.
Most urgent are the gyroscopes. Hubble needs three functional gyros for the best targeting / alignment. Hubble had 6, so if one failed, another could be used. It is now down to only two gyros.
If you watch the previous repair / upgrade missions, they designed Hubble so that large, rectangular modules hold the hardware. In the previous missions, they opened the side doors, pulled out the current module, and replaced them with the upgrades.
Yes, yes, that is not all they did, or have to do. If nothing else, just launch and attach new gyros to the outside of Hubble, until a longer term mission can occur. While the Webb Space Telescope is expanding our knowledge, it is not in the visual spectrum. Someday, something will replace Hubble. Until then, Get R Done!
Newsweek has a lot of experts of Uranuses.
The rings of Klingons surrounding Uranus must be thoroughly wiped out before we can safely be sure of the length of the day.
Longer days are good, but it’s way better that Uranus is full of giant diamonds. I don’t think anything will top that.
Looks like the day didn’t get longer. The just now know the interval somewhat better.
Out gassing is a serious issue.

I’ll have to wipe myself better.
The guy that spent decades studying the gaseous emissions of Uranus deserves a raise.
