Just something fun to cleanse your timeline:
Steve Stewart-Williams @SteveStuWill · Follow “[W]omen consistently have more sensitive hearing than men - by about two decibels on average - regardless of age or where they live… The researchers suggest that this may reflect a universal biological trait rather than a culturally specific pattern.”
You weren't imagining those mom superpowers. She really does have spidey senses.
The study was led by Dr. Patricia Balaresque from France's Centre for Biodiversity and Environmental Research in Toulouse and was published in Scientific Reports. It looked at 448 people across five countries and measured how the inner ear responds to sound through a technique used in newborn hearing screenings.
Scientists can measure an "echo" from your ear called "Transient-Evoked Otoacoustic Emissions" that indicates how the hairs in your cochlea respond to brief sounds, like a click or a snap.
Women's ears were a bit perkier.
In the population-based model (a), for amplitude metrics, strong contrasts were observed between population pairs, particularly those including Amerindian populations ... Sex also contributed significantly, explaining around 2 dB differences between men and women. Age sub-classes showed estimates ranging from 1.4 to 3 dB, with notable homogeneity observed between the youngest (18 - 25 and 25 - 35 years) and oldest (35 - 45 and 45 - 55 years) age groups, suggesting significant age-related trends...
So husbands, next time you fail at listening to your wife, just sit her down and say, "Don't be angry, honey, I'm just at a biological disadvantage."
I'm sure that'll go over REALLY WELL.
Thank you for your service.
If you haven't already, you should consider applying to the VA for a disability for your hearing. I thought I was about 80% deaf, applied for a disability, and the VA sent me to an independent audiologist. He said I'm NOT 80% deaf; I'm only 78% deaf! I was awarded a partial disability. (Took 7-8 months.)
Also, I have top of the line hearing aids provided by the VA.
Hahahahahaahahahahahaha!
Too funny! I love threads like this!
You trying out for the Supreme Court?
I tell people that is how I discovered there is a just and merciful God, cause if we had to listen to everything they say, we would all go bonkers!
I’ve got do that due to the PACT thing. A VFW person grabbed me at the hockey game the other now and made me promise I would contact them. I’ve got to do that. Maybe tomorrow.
That’s awesome, I really like the second image too. My girl friend who is sitting here with me now, got a kick out of that one too.
Good! BTW, it’s not retroactive to your service days, it’s only retroactive to your disability application date.
LOL! I've been through that and did not pass..
I actually have some hearing loss, and the DH always tests as normal. My comment to him is that I am hard of hearing but he is hard of listening — well, to me, anyway.....
Two words: power equipment. 😉
One of my favorite shirts:
My wife says I don’t listen... I think.
(I also like the one that says “Silence is Golden. Duct Tape is Silver”)
Can’t have that!!! 🙄
Since sound travels one mile every five seconds, why does it take me so long to understand what my wife is saying? 🤣
Men have selective hearing loss. Women hear stuff that was never even said.
Have at me, I don’t care.
When my dad finally got quality hearing aids, he told me the greatest benefit was that my mom finally stopped mumbling.
Not from my experience.
Maybe better selective hearing...
This happened recently at Mass. I figured out who the “culprit” was, and the elderly man couldn’t hear a thing. Eventually the person next to him told him to turn off his hearing aid. It wasn’t a complete stranger, but someone who had brought him there. The rest of us were very relieved. I think we were listening to his batteries dying for at least ten minutes. Children around us were asking their parents what was going on.
I am pretty good at math, but my husband is light years better than I am in that regard. I have to see it written down, but he can do all of it in his head.
I assure you that my wife can hear a mouse belch at 100 yards.
