In Germany, ‘Orphaned’ by U.S., Shock Gives Way to ActionNo country in Europe is as much a product of enlightened postwar American diplomacy. Now adrift, it has begun to reckon with a new world.

...Germany, perhaps more than any other country in Europe, feels adrift, orphaned and even betrayed by its closest ally. But if Germans have been pushed out of the nest, they are also beginning to respond, amid deep soul searching and questioning about the future — both their own and Europe’s.

The biggest indication that shock is giving way to action came this week, as the German Parliament voted to loosen the country’s long aversion to debt so that it could begin rebuilding a military and a domestic infrastructure that had fallen into neglect.

It was a groundbreaking step, given taboos about German militarism. Still, it is one that Germans and other Europeans know they must take to adapt to new hostility coming from both Russia and the United States.

Joschka Fischer, a former foreign minister, radical leftist in his younger days and now a Green party stalwart, said, “I always had a complicated relationship with the United States, which was far from perfect, but the U.S. was always the shining city on the hill.”

“But now,” he said, “we’ve lost not only the power that protected us, but also the guiding star in the sky.”

Europe must rearm in response, he said. German leadership is essential to do that, though many on the continent are still insistent that Europeans must, as Mr. Fischer put it, “continue with our close alliance with the U.S., while becoming as strong as possible to deter Russia.”

..“There’s no other country in Europe that is as much a product of enlightened postwar American policy as Germany,” said Mr. Bagger, born in 1965. “So the shock is deeper here.”

A German friend once said the US was the only thing holding up Germany with the US military bringing in money and providing civilian jobs. The US needs to stop all aid to the world to force countries to either grow the heck up and take responsibility for themselves or fail.

In other words, why couldn’t we just let the world rape us forever?

https://www.bruegel.org/analysis/fit-war-decades-sluggish-german-rearmament-versus-surging-russian-defence-production

From the article:

“By 2021, Germany had around 340 tanks, or just 8 percent of the more than 4000 West German tanks it had in 1992 and 14 percent of the 2400 tanks it had in 2004. The number of howitzers fell from more than 3000 in 1992 to almost 1000 in 2004 and a mere 120 in 2021. Similar numbers apply for other weapon systems. Even for the fighter jets that NATO puts significant emphasis on, numbers came down by more than 50 percent.”

So what the heck happened? What did they do with all of that money? And then some want to blame the US for Europe's military woes? Crazy.

Germany is part of the EU, not of the USA. The USA can’t orphan Germany. The New York Times has lost their ability to think, they’ve been given over to reprobate mind.

The New York Times trying to generate hate for President Trump. Sickening!

..we’ve lost .. the guiding star in the sky..

Anybody else see the irony? This guy's a hard core commie/greenie weenie. He references pre-Trump America as a "guiding star."

If that doesn't make Americans cringe, nothing will.

As usual, Europe only cares about Europe. Secretly they wish we would just disappear. So, when we threaten to give them their wish because they depend upon us to do all the heavy lifting while they flitter away with social issues, they suddenly smell the reality, and the reality isn't pleasant.

In the meantime, the elites of Europe do everything in their power to destroy the U.S. as a free nation, with help from within via the Democrats & RINOs to one where the elites call all the shots & limits the freedoms of our citizens.

We reject their designs. Either we win, or the whole world descends into the depths of purgatory.

Chronos, you chose to emigrate to Europe, time for you to stop whining about your decision, because you do not like our decisions to save ourselves. Perhaps our decision will spur your leaders to do the same, and take responsibility to stop the stupidity, and face reality by getting engaged in providing for their protection, because we cannot do it all.

We have communism trending in many South American nations, and Central America, who are attacking the US. in unconventional warfare, by sending the worst of the worst to the U.S> to create total havoc.

They are trying to throw former Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro in jail where he will be killed while in prison.

That is within our hemisphere. If Europe wants to keep committing suicide by stupidity, then we have more important issues closer to home.

I only read the excerpt posted but I didn’t get the same vibe you did. They didn’t lose their “Guiding Light” the USA is just shining a lot brighter now. They don’t want to look at it let alone follow it. VP Vance said it as plain as day. While our political system was built to ensure change came slowly and deliberately, their political system was designed and built for total entrenchment. It makes it impossible to do anything other than what the people in Brussels want to be done. They won’t even consider it, so unfortunately they need a couple proverbial smacks upside the head.

A story in the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita asked, What if Germany rebuilds the Bundeswehr but the AfD takes over?

This was listed as another reason for Poland's military buildup.

That's still a "radical leftist" in my book.

(Whining woke Kraut)...we’ve lost not only the power that protected us, but also the guiding star in the sky.

Wrong!

You can still go MGGA (Make Germany Great Again) Get with the program, drop your communist world view and start making things better for Germans.

You can start by ejecting all the murdering muzzard Nazis you let into your country.

I was last in Germany in late 1999. My customer was in Frankfurt. It was a pleasant place to be. Lots of good restaurants. I often ran into American soldiers at the movie theater. It was clear that the US military was a significant part of the local economy. My German proficiency was adequate for times when the people I encountered were not proficient in English. The one place I was very careful was in customer meetings. Lots of chit chat laced with "genau" which means exactly in English. If I didn't understand something "exactly", I was careful to not agree to something I didn't fully understand.

And we should call it what it is - sedition. It’s a political system masquerading as a religion and taking advantage of the countries with religious freedom.

When you put it that way, it sounds like a younger sibling has been taking care of the lazy, crackhead, older brother for the past 75 years.

Without the USA, the EuroTrash will be at each others throat. It’s who they are and what they do. They are blood thirsty savages who love war and conquest.

If the US did not have a strong central government, US states would also have been at war with one another.

Apart from Russia, WWI was not started by desire for conquest but rather fear of conquest: Germany attacked first because it was faced with a two-front war and sought to disable what it considered to be the stronger power (France) first.

The current problem is that without a hegemon like the US, there is no political framework that can provide Europe with an effective common defense. The EU is like the US under the Articles of Confederation, far too unwieldy.

The term “Blockhead” for Germans didn’t just fall out of the sky.

They are suddenly desperate to rearm. But nobody is attacking or threatening Germany. However at this very moment, there are around 20 million moslem and African migrants stabbing, ramming and raping their way through Germany. But that’s ok... when they really need to do is go to war with Russia.

Blockheads.

I was there during the 90s and had college kids ask me why the US was still there. I told them we were there because that’s what their government wanted.

When the German government wants us to leave we will leave.

They didn’t really like that answer.

Europe has been at general peace twice in recorded history, Pax Romana and Pax Americana.

They don't like each other.

Heck even in the nation of Germany it's self the various states do not like each other.

But we were your baby sitters for 80 years. Time to grow up.
