I don’t keep up with what Disney is doing. What they did to the Star Wars franchise is unforgivable. Yet, the new Snow White movie starring Rachel Zegler, a pro-Hamas clown, is getting bombed harder than Gaza right now, as critics and theater-goers are decidedly not watching this movie:

Nor the fact that Gadot, as the Wicked Queen, is 1000X hotter than Zegler.

The budget was one of the highest.

Projections a couple of weeks out were 80 million domestic. Then revised down to 45-55 million just before it opened. Turned in just under final projections but well under projections made 2 weeks earlier.
It needs around $600-700 million to break even (some say higher but the actual costs are not public). Looks like it will top out around 250 million. Disney will probably lose 150-250 million IMHO.
$43M means probably 6 million or less wasted their money to see it.

In the context of the fairy tale Snow White, you notice the coarseness of the actresses features, in a normal movie she can be very attractive, but in this context she clearly lacks the ethereal beauty of this 16th century European fantasy princess.
Disneys idiotic thinking extends beyond woke content, there’s a lack of imagination, an apparent default setting to rely on reworking tired old material or developing some lame spin off from it. Tacking on DEI themes takes it from uninteresting to completely disinterested.
I’m hardly an expert on Disney or the movie industry. Casual observation tells me that there is an audience for what they produce- but it’s at the cost of a far larger audience.

Cost of production minimum $300M which does not include any promotion globally, which is not cheap. As noted above, costs are not public. Generally presumed promotion doubles filming costs because it is global and so many things are involved with language variance, etc.
Like great beasts, large corporations are so powerful and resistant to pain that it takes a great blow to get their attention. The financial catastrophe of Snow White is such a blow, not just for Disney, but for all of Hollywood and for the woke contingent in corporate America.
But it doesn’t matter. Plenty of their “live action” remakes have tanked. But they serve their purpose even if they make no money.
Zegler is the Oligarchist Barney Sanders’, next bureaucracy fraud, waste and abuse “rising star”.

Disney always spends a bunch on these things. A few of them are successful so they keep thinking there’s magic there. But it will keep the Snow White merch train under their control, and that will make the money.
Except it doesn’t. It just has to keep the merch under their control. That’s the money in these things.
If I were Disney I would sue Rachel Zegler for any money lost on this.
