A recent discovery in the Rocky Mountains has given scientists an extraordinary look into the past, but it comes with an unsettling reminder of the effects of climate change. A 5,900-year-old forest was found preserved under ice at Wyoming’s Beartooth Plateau, offering valuable insight into ancient ecosystems. This remarkable find, detailed in a study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, underscores the impact of warming temperatures. The forest was uncovered as ice patches melted, further highlighting the growing threat of rising global temperatures to high-elevation ecosystems.
Ancient Trees Uncovered After Millennia
During an archaeological survey, scientists found 30 whitebark pine trees in an exceptional state of preservation. Radiocarbon dating confirmed their age, ranging from 5,440 to 5,950 years old. The trees were discovered 180 meters above the current tree line, suggesting that when they were alive, temperatures were warm enough to support forests at much higher elevations.
This discovery reshapes our understanding of the Rocky Mountains’ past climate. It also confirms that tree lines have shifted dramatically over thousands of years, responding to long-term environmental changes.

Once upon a time it was warmer. Then it got cold. Now it's becoming warmer again.
All of that has happened and is happening regardless of human input.
trees frozen to death 6,000 years ago PROVE the devastation caused by global WARMING! ... got it ...
So it was warm enough just 6,000 years ago for these trees to grow on that mountain?
Then it got cold and they were buried in snow and ice.
But then it warmed up again and today the snow and ice cover are melting.
Do these people understand what they are saying?
“Once upon a time it was warmer. Then it got cold.”
And has been repeated many times (without the help of man).
The floods occurred dozens of times over the 2,000 years between 15,000 and 13,000 years ago.
The last ice age ended 11,700 years ago, North America entered into an interglacial warm period, the glaciers retreated, and the periodic floods ended. So, just how did it get cold enough 6,000 years ago to bury those trees in snow and ice?
Don’t ask them such tough questions, it will make their heads spin

So the area warming up to the point of supporting trees again is a climate disaster?
Ice melts and other brand new discoveries!
So, the weather was great - and trees grew.
Then ice came, and buried them for 6000 years.
Ice is melting now because of mankind, and the trees that were growing for thousands of years are reemerging.
Minorities and illegals hit hardest, followed by kids, then XX women.
White men to blame.
“Ancient Trees Frozen For 6,000 Years Emerge From Ice, and a Nancy Pelosi poster was stuck to it.”
Who knew cavemen drove SUV’s and heated up the planet 6000 years ago!
Around 10,000 years ago, the place where my wife and I live was covered with a sheet of ice around half a mile thick. The climate is always changing.
The moon Titan has lakes of Methane.
How did the dinosaurs get to Titan?
On the back of Pelosi’s broom.
The earth’s climate has been continuously warming since the end of the last ice age. This will likely continue until the earth again returns to the next ice age. There is nothing humanity can do to affect this sequence. Additionally, since the formation of the earth, the climate has been on a long-term cooling trend. This will continue until the Sun burns out.
When tectonic plates move long-term environmental changes.
“Do these people understand what they are saying?”
They use the words, but they don’t know what they mean.
This tells me that an extended NATURAL warming period occurred 6,000 years ago and the world survived.
Question to the climate change believers: What is the correct temperature of the earth?
They misspelled lunatic.
Well, apart from the climate change hysteria implied in all articles of this type. I can see a possible real downside to a climate climate there, even naturally warming. The Rocky Mountain snowpacks are a vital source of water for a lot of US states. Less cold means less snow. Less snow means less capturable water from runoff into rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and lakes. Rain helps, but it runs-off and evaporates a lot quicker than a good snowpack.
