The display of seismic activity has drawn numerous visitors, including Marco Bassot, a snowboarder.
Several days ago, Bassot began sharing footage of climbing and riding the erupting volcano. The snowboarder in the videos cruised down patches of snow while, in the background, a river of lava bubbled.
"This fracture started some days ago and created a huge, intense and impressive lava flow for more than 1.000 m, you can really feel the heat," Bassot wrote in a social media post. "I've seen many things in my 40 years of life but riding side by side of a flowing river of lava was one of the most special, impressive and breathtaking experiences I've ever lived."
Mt. Etna is Europe's largest and most active volcano.
A new eruption began on February 6, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). February 12 saw strong explosive activity that launched ash and lava into the air.
While beautiful, Mt. Etna's eruption prompted concern amongst some local authorities as an influx of visitors arrived...
Salvo Cocina, Sicily's head of regional civil protection, called the tourist inundation "extremely dangerous," noting that groups of onlookers had begun crowding narrow streets with their parked cars as they clamored for a glimpse of the active Mt. Etna. Those parked cars, according to Cocina, were obstructing rescue vehicles.

Etna, not glad I met ya.
Well, that explains Pompeii..................
Several years ago a female tourist from Hong Kong paid a guide in Africa to take her to the lip of an erupting volcano. She literally, as in actually fell into the volcano while taking a selfie!
Another post this week were we can use the word "Volcano". Good deal! (Vulcanism. Best enjoyed at a distance!)
Nonchalant towards danger...tornados in the Midwest. I can hear a wife in the back ground...
"For goodness sake, what are you doing, don't play around! I wish you would take this seriously! If you have to be out here at least finish the mowing!"
LOL! As you KNOW, *I* do the mowing around here; but NOT during a Tornado and NOT during the SW Wisconsin Lava Floes! ;)
LOL! :)
“While beautiful, Mt. Etna’s eruption prompted concern amongst some local authorities as an influx of visitors arrived...”
Local Restaurant Owner, Barzelletta Scherzo said*, “Don’t these people know what the price of EGGS is these days? We can’t afford to FEED all of these additional tourists!”
*But, ya know - he said it in Italian, so it had much more gravitas. ;)
So I understand! And the gardening, and the cooking, and the feeding and dishes, and the social networking!
Well, I would have suggested some sheep to help with the lawn mowing, but we already know who would end up doing the shearing, and the carding, and the spinning, etc!
Yep. Beau says he’s saving me a LOT of time and effort by NOT letting me get a milk cow. I half-believe him. I mean, he DID grow up on a dairy/beef farm so he MIGHT know a LITTLE something about the time and effort it takes. ;)
He’s Up Nort’ today, closing a bargain deal on Bear Bait for the upcoming season, so I get to do ALL the animal chores...in 10 degree weather. Yay! (Not.)
At least the manure will be FROZEN, but it still ain’t gonna shovel itself!
So No you do not want to be milking cows when you should be looking through the picture window watching the snow fall while you crochet and enjoy hot cocoa!
Bear bait.... Road kill deer hanging in a maple tree to "Age" with a bucket of rotting fish on the ground nearby. (Bear bait, badger bait, wolf bait, coyote bait, etc.) Could find some for free covered in sawdust ripening at at the local DOT depot. (Goodnight!)
