The recall affects more than 80,000 vehicles in the United States. The company said it took the action to remedy a wiring issue which could potentially lead to improper air bag deployment.
Kia America is recalling more than 80,000 vehicles because of an issue identified with wiring beneath the front passenger seat in some of its vehicles that can could potentially prevent vehicle airbags and seat belts from deploying properly.
According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the damaged wiring could also cause unintended air bag deployment.
The recall covers the 2023-2025 Niro EV, Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) and Hybrid vehicles.
US vehicle dealerships will inspect recalled vehicles and replace and reroute the floor wiring assembly, as necessary, for free. In addition, dealers will install wiring covers.
Second recall since November It's understood that vehicle owners affected will be notified in March.
The recall follows one in November last year, when both Hyundai and Kia recalled more than 200,000 electric vehicles to fix a transistor in a charging control unit that could stop charging the 12-volt battery.
At the time, the company said that this fault could cause loss of drive power and increase the risk of an accident.
No problem, just don’t get into accidents. (liberal logic)
In the long ago days of printed newspapers one crank in town wrote letters to the editor again and again against the new invention air bags put in cars.
He said all death sentence prisoners should be released but made to drive cars with air bags to await their ends.
Do you drive or ride in cars kith airbags?
As Kamala and Nancy Pelosi once said “I take the fifth.”
You’d think after 35 years and millions of cars with airbags, they’d get it right.
That crank probably thinks the good old cars of the 50’s and 60’s were safer since they were bigger.
And seat belts were dangerous since it’s better to be thrown clear of a crash.
First we Hyundai and Kia that make engines that blow up early in life. And now this.

Too late for me and my Kia Sorrento. I got T-boned by some jerk that ran a stop sign while I’m on the highway. I got a concussion from the side curtain air bag. It actually knocked me out for a second. If course it was totaled.
But then, you’re here to talk about it which is good.
First thing I’d do if I got that message is disconnect (and maybe remove) my airbags. I always wear seat belts, so airbags don’t add much to my safety.
