Trump said “take it” not buy it.

Denmark? We could take Greenland in 3 days. They would greet us with flowers.

“He probably also supports the Monroe Doctrine, where other countries should be encouraged to develop US values.”

What are US Values? The present Administration considers killing of babies in Africa as a “US Value”. I doubt the incoming thinks the same.

“Denmark and the EU might have something to say about that.”

The EU doesn’t get a way. But make up a false flag in Ilulissat (Greenland) and then take it by force, as we did in Kosovo.

The competition for control of the Arctic and its resources is ongoing but underreported. Some overtures have been suggested to make Greenland part of NATO. Trumps plan makes strategic sense instead of turning Greenland into another heavily armed Euro territory from which to challenge Russia

Denmark is part of the EU. As such, they are not sovereign. So, the EU *does* get a way.

The Monroe Doctrine promoted freedom. Abortion is not an American value, but a liberal one.

The post was taken down so I will never know what it was.

But I didn’t know this was a G rated site :)

Maybe some WANT IT TO BE.

But it’s PG maybe PG 13 sometimes.

We’re not children here.

And we’re not all as righteous as some others :)

Besides their geographical position, they’re useless.

How does the US persuade Denmark to part with Greenland?

The full question is: "How does the US persuade Denmark to part with Greenland when the EU Parliament, Klaus Schwab, the Communist Party International, George Soros, and the CCP are screaming at Denmark's leaders to never, ever, ever cooperate with Donald Trump or the USA - in anything?

Talk about Greenland and the Panama Canal is not really a suggestion to foreign leaders, who don't have the agency to agree, anyway. It's a warning to the Dr. Evils of the world that in the event of a serious conflict the USA intends to seize those areas. The real fireworks will come when China tries to apply the same logic to the Straits of Malacca.

If you don’t count Lisa Murkowski, Seward’s folly was a good deal. I think Greenland would be the same.

Taken along with Trump’s trolling on Canada becoming part of America and now wanting Greenland as an “absolute necessity” it could be interpreted as a threat. I doubt Denmark will appreciate being pressured to sell it as it is their largest landmass. His comments are very expansionist.

AnotherUnixGeek: "How does the US persuade Denmark to part with Greenland? And how does the US pay for it?"

dodger: "It costs Denmark a lot to manage with very few Greenlander Danes and to no real advantage (and the price no where near trillions)."

The cost of Denmark's subsidies to Greenland represents around 10% of Denmark's annual defense spending -- for the US, that would be the equivalent of nearly $100 billion per year.

Greenland's area is about 836,000 square miles, meaning any cost per square mile over $1,000 puts the total into the trillions of dollars.

Greenland has many untapped natural resources, including rare earth metals, gold, coal and uranium -- though there's no available estimate for the total value of such resources.
It might be $trillions, or not, and how much is buried under ice too thick to reach?

Would Denmark want to sell Greenland?
Would Greenlanders want to become Americans?

Who knows?

Strategically, it creates a buffer zone between the United States and communist europe.

Fiscally, I have no doubt of mineral resources on the continent sized island.

Like the Louisiana purchase and the purchase of Alaska, it just makes sense.

"Trump said “take it” not buy it."

Naw... not in the quote linked.
What Trump said was:

Nothing there about "taking".

You know how Trump negotiates.

China wants to include Greenland in its Belt and Road Initiative and it wants to get its paws on Greenland's natural resources.

That is out of the question.

If the U.S. doesn't take action to remove access to Greenland (i.e., out of China's reach), China will clearly move to make sure Greenland—with its rare earth assets and strategic location—is out of our reach.

That cannot be permitted.
