So I get a call from my son at about 7:30 am. He’s freaking out wondering of something happened here since (according to him) I made 2 calls at approximately 1:28 am.
He assumed something must have been wrong for me to be calling so late, but we chalked it up to an infamous ‘butt dial’.
But wait: I was pretty sure I was in bed before then, and made that pretty clear. I then after checking my phone history I said, “can you check the number that actually called you, since I have no record of it on my phone?”.
He then immediately sent me a screenshot of his early morning incoming calls – with my number listed twice. Again, there is no record of a call being made to him or anyone at that time in the morning from my phone. Has this ever happened to anyone else?
Yes.
Yes.
I get spoofed calls all of the time by telemarketers. Once MY NUMBER called me. So it’s a prank call by someone that knows him/you.
No.
Next time have him call *69 to call back the number that called him and freak them out.
I’ve never seen that. What I have gotten are voicemails from a phone number that didn’t ring my phone nor showed up in my phone log.
Yes.
Yes. It’s an AI voice generator that can display any telephone number. And the voice generator will fool a person into thinking that their loved one is really on the phone and really in trouble.
The purpose of this scam is to have a reaction that leads the victim to release credit card info so the “loved one” can post bail.
It is some sort of thing scammers do.
Yes, it happened twice and both times in the middle of the night. My phone was plugged in across the room, so I know I did not accidentally call. We were staying in a 200 year old Air B&B at the time, and though I never really thought about it until that moment, I did have that “ghost” thought.
Yes, I’ve been spoofed with a local, known number and it turned out to be a sales call, although I don’t remember the product or service, I do recall being shocked about being spoofed by a known number.
That used to work on landlines, but does it work on cells?
(Once MY NUMBER called me)
Well, you’re Bipolar Bob so maybe.....
Just sayin’..... maybe you DID call you..
..so......
😀🤔😹🤣😄😂😆
Yes, it’s called spoofing.
I don’t how they do it, but there are techies out there who how to take control of your phone line for the purpose of making calls from it. Watch your phone bill, because you don’t have any control over them doing this or who they are calling. All you can do is challenge any strange calls that are costing you money.
Another warning, never say yes in these conversations because you never know what the computer on the other side is programmed to do upon you saying the magic word.
I avoid answering calls from numbers I do not recognize.
If some of you have received calls from your own number, that means there is anility out there to display fake numbers. I would ignore/hangup that call. Obviously not a legit call.
I have heard AI can imitate any voice. If I get such call imitating my kids or relatives, telling me there is emergency situation, and asking for my credit card for them to use, I would be suspicious and tell them I will call them back immediately.
It is best to never give your credit card or bank account to any blind call.
I did that and a local bank answered. They did not call me. Someone electronically hijacked their line.
Don’t know. You have a point.
