When it comes to healthy eating, veggies are always a good choice — but one takes the cake for being the healthiest.
Watercress is the most nutrient-dense vegetable, receiving a perfect score of 100 in the CDC’s long-standing ranking of “powerhouse” fruits and vegetables (PFVs).
Chinese cabbage is a close second with a score of 91.99, followed by chard (89.27), beet greens (87.08) and spinach (86.43).
These foods, among a total of 41 that qualified as PFVs, were found to contain 17 nutrients, including potassium, fiber, protein, calcium, iron, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, folate, zinc, and vitamins A, B6, B12, C, D, E and K.
Cruciferous items, including watercress, Chinese cabbage, collard greens, kale and arugula — as well as leafy greens, like chard, beet greens, spinach, chicory and leaf lettuce — took the top spots on the list.
Yellow and orange foods, like carrots, tomatoes, winter squash and sweet potatoes — along with allium, citrus and berry croups — landed in the bottom half.
When it comes to the top veggie, watercress, nutritionists agree that it has a multitude of health benefits.

When it comes to trusting anything the CDC says.... meh
The CDC used that in 2014: "Defining Powerhouse Fruits and Vegetables: A Nutrient Density Approach" by Jennifer Di Noia, PhD.
😁.........................
‘Veggie’ has pretty much become a standard, informal noun now.
That’s a damning indictment of American society.

I have never eaten watercress, don’t even know what it looks like..................
Are you referring to something in this here article?
Sorry, but if the despicable, lying CDC recommends watercress then I’m not eating it. Watercress probably is loaded with phytoestrogens and anti-erection compounds. Eat enough watercress and you will wake up in a bathhouse under a pile of faggots that tag-teamed you all night.
Mods, delete if you will but I will repost it.
One possible explanation of the seeming disparity between lettuce and say broccoli is that these analyses are performed on a dry-weight basis, so you’d have to eat three heads of lettuce which is mostly water to equal the nutritional value of a small stem of broccoli.
It's a sad commentary of what the CDC has done to its own agency, after the Covid & vaccines lies they perpetuated upon the public.
A lot of words and expressions we consider ‘proper’ English words started out the same way, and over time they were accepted as standard, in some cases even universally - O.K., OK, Okay is understood now in most of the world.
And technology adds a lot of words - like ‘internet’, ‘selfie’, ‘phishing’, ‘ransomware’; the OED adds about a thousand new words a year...
No wonder Obama likes it so much!................
I remember a lab partner in Anatomy way back, Vietnamese gal lived in Little Saigon. Was complaining about something called Cải xoong she said didn’t translate to English and was very expensive in the Vietnamese markets.
Anyway. I took her to Ralphs market and I think the price for watercress was way cheaper. Imagine her chagrin when she realized her fellow new American’s were scamming their own people.
Long story, but figured I’d share.
Good point.
it’s green! Too much vitamin K for me as I am on warfarin.
That is true, but I won’t mind “veggie” as a substitute for “vegetable” if we can get rid of “could of went” instead of “could have gone” in the American vernacular.
Dear FR mods,
You have deleted my previous comments with the words “faggot” and “dry vagina” but when I repost my comments and call you out they stay up. What is up with you? Let me repost my latest offending “faggoty faggots” comment.

Delete it, I double dare you.
