The kernel of the long-awaited “victory plan” for Ukraine that President Volodymyr Zelensky introduced this fall goes something like this: If you give me what I’ve been asking for — membership in NATO and permission to fire Western missiles deep into Russian territory — I could end the war by next year.
The demands are not in themselves new. The urgency is in the timing: The American election, and what President Biden does before he leaves office, will have serious consequences for the trajectory of the Russia-Ukraine war.
Actual membership in NATO is not in the cards for Ukraine until the war is over. The Atlantic alliance has already declared that Ukraine is on an “irreversible” path to membership, but that is as far as it is likely to go for now. Firing NATO missiles deep into Russia, however, is something a growing number of members have signaled they would allow.
Not Mr. Biden, at least not yet. NATO weapons striking inside Russia, he fears, would take Western participation in the war to a new level. It would also cross a red line that Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, has drawn. Long-range strikes against Russia, Mr. Putin has declared, “will mean that NATO countries — the United States and European countries — are at war with Russia.”
A growing chorus of NATO members disagree, and have urged the United States to give Ukraine the green light. Russia, they argue, has no compunctions about using weapons from China, North Korea or Iran against Ukraine. “Are you telling me that Putin is not using — is not throwing — everything he has at Ukraine?” Poland’s foreign minister, Radoslaw Sikorski, said in a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal.

Mr. Sikorski would do well to remember that Russia has a very different definition of war against hostile nations.
When bombing cities, Russia sees little need of “missing” non-combatants after telling the same to leave the theater.
Warsaw is on range of Russian missiles.
IIRC, Russia has not declared “war” on Ukraine.
Theirs is a military mission to liberate Russians in (Nazi-held) Donbas.
Not to be depressing and morbid — but it’s really starting to feel like all the wheels are coming off of everything.
Economically (China), militarily (Ukraine, Iran), politically (election fraud), criminally (illegal immigrants,courts, Attorney Generals, etc), morally (transgenders). The list could go on.
I’m fairly old. I’ve been around. I’ve never seen anything like this. I’ve heard it called a metacrisis or a polycrisis — everything breaks all at once.
Almost everyone I know if in a state of constant anxiety with shaky mental health (often because they think the “other” side might win the election). Everyone seems on edge.
And, in what I think is a related matter, I know of at least 3 YouTube channels that have just gone on hiatus because the content creators are having breakdowns of one sort or another. Too stressed by the world.
I think the world is about to change in a huge way. I’m hoping it’s because Jesus is coming back any day. But it may just be a civilizational collapse. WWIII wouldn’t help.
Biden has about a week to do this.

If one Russian missile hits Warsaw and Russia doesn’t disavow it as a mistake / off course / whatever, then it’s game on. Russia cannot win that game. That’s not my opinion, it is Putin’s. He has said it himself. (Vid posted on FR, around Jan. 2022, IIRC.)
I will say, however, that you are correct about Russian targeting. They waste enormous quantities of munitions.
They can’t be trusted with anything they have a record to prove it.

And not just international. He could loose a string of EO's or "regulations" that could hamstring the economy. Or open the treasury and spark our return to the runaway inflation that finally bankrupts us. IOW, He could go scorched earth nationally, too.

Sure they would. When your enemy is making a mistake, don’t interfere. China likely sees both sides as adversaries in some ways - and also future economic opportunities. Especially if there is a lot of destruction.
Yes, of course, but if Biden gives Z-man the green light and then Trump not-yet-in-office talks him (Zelenskyy) out of it, Z-man’s own people on the right will take him (Z-man) out. I’m not talking about “Nazis” (though they would do so too), I’m talking about reasonably patriotic Ukrainians who have been convinced (mainly by Biden supporters and a lot of Europeans who support Ukraine) that Trump is Satan incarnate, Pooty’s tool, cannot possibly be trusted, etc. This is by far the largest bloc of people remaining in Ukrainian controlled territory. Then it’s up to Pooty to hold back, and he’d be under incredible pressure with such a group now in charge in Ukraine...
Unless Trump wins in a blowout and the Pubbies win the House and Senate too, there will also likely be election challenges to muddy the waters. How could Pooty be sure he doesn’t end up with Harris anyway?
