After sipping pumpkin spiced lattes in August and putting up Halloween decorations in late September, Samantha Kowalczyk already looks forward to drinking eggnog-flavored coffee and filling her Wilmington, Delaware, home with cinnamon and sugar cookie scented candles and other holiday aromas.
The 30-year-old thinks seasonal flavors and scents should be available year-round. And apparently others feel the same way.
In response to growing customer demand, stores of all stripes, from Bath and Body Works and online holiday decor retailer Balsam Hill to Whole Foods Market and doughnut maker Krispy Kreme, are bringing out their festive collections weeks before the Nov. 1 start of the holiday shopping season.
Inflation-weary shoppers may wait until the first cold snap to buy a sweater or gloves, but when it comes to seeking out deals tied to events like the start of a new school year or limited-time seasonal promotions, a fair number of consumers are finding it's never too soon.
“I want the season earlier and the things that go with the season earlier,” Kowalczyk said. “I want to enjoy it for as long as I can ... If I enjoy it, why should I have to wait?”

“I feel like there is a time and season for everything,” she said. “If we purchase these things too early, they're not as special.”
Love egg nog, but kind of high in carbs (not worried about the fat). I’ve tried to make my own but can’t quite get it.
Yep. Eggnog now on display at several grocery stores where I shop.
Eggnog is a waste of perfectly good rum.
Stores here were putting up Christmas stuff in August..................
I dread the day that they start with the Christmas music.
“I feel like there is a time and season for everything,” she said. “If we purchase these things too early, they’re not as special.”
Ditto.
LOL! “Why is all the Rum gone?!!?!”
I picked up a quart of eggnog at least three weeks ago at a Safeway near Tucson. Halloween candy was out in August, and Lowe’s already has fake Christmas trees.
They might just as well sell the merchandise for every holiday all year round. Sort of like the way political campaigning never stops now.
All I have to do is LOOK at a carton of egg nog and I gain five pounds. Love it!
I took some to a Labor Day barbecue as a joke. I couldn’t believe it was in the store already.
I call it liquid flab. Sure is tasty, though.
Hobby Lobby is a good one for that - HOWEVER, they ARE a craft store and it takes time to make seasonal, handmade things. From a Retail Perspective (18 years of it!) I totally get it.
I NEVER put out ‘Christmas’ until the day AFTER Thanksgiving. My Garden Center Customers appreciated it. Never had one complaint in 10 years. Those people were MY people. :)
One of the great pleasures in life. Southern Comfort traditional egg nog.
A glass filled with half milk and half egg nog. Watching the election results roll in.
I could drink eggnog year-round, despite that joke from Dave Attell. Not all cartons contain what can reasonably be called eggnog, but I’ve not had the homemade kind in decades.
Lactaid actually made one of the best ‘canned’ ‘nogs I’ve had.
That’s a bit early.
I understand they need to put out their decorations (in a seasonal section) so that they can sell decorations to us for us to display at our homes.
The woman at the beginning of the article puts her stuff out too early, IMHO.
I don’t put Halloween decorations out until the beginning of October. Thanksgiving themed decor goes up after Halloween. Christmas items aren’t displayed until after Thanksgiving. I usually wait until December 1 to start.
Of course, I keep Christmas decorations up through the Epiphany, and because those take me the longest to put up and take down, it’s usually mid to late January before it’s all put away.
I know there are others who disagree with this format, but it’s what I’m comfortable with doing.
In all seriousness, I think this goes to the lack of spirituality and oneness of nature in this country. There is a lack of a presence that helps us understand there is a time for everything. People want to elongate the use of material goods, not necessarily focus on the birth of our Lord, the souls of the departed or time to have true gratitude for what we have.
Haven’t been able to find eggnog, unfortunately, except for one container of pumpkin eggnog, then couldn’t find that again!
I know it is deadly as far as its fat content, etc. but for me, one tablespoon in coffee is all I need, can’t imagine drinking the stuff it’s so thick...rest of family despises it (good! more for me).
Pumpkin spice everything has been out here since the end of August.
