ALERT: Nearly 10 Million Pounds Of Meat Recalled
100 Percent Fed Up ^ | October 10, 2024 | Staff

A food processing company has recalled nearly 10 million pounds of meat and poultry products manufactured at an Oklahoma plant due to listeria concerns.

“BrucePac, a Durant, Okla. establishment, is recalling approximately 9,986,245 pounds of ready-to-eat (RTE) meat and poultry products that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes,” the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.

“The ready-to-eat meat and poultry items were produced from June 19, 2024, to October 8, 2024. These products were shipped to other establishments and distributors nationwide then distributed to restaurants and institutions,” the FSIS stated.

According to the New York Post, BrucePac’s brand names include Urban Bruce and City Grillers.

Per FSIS:

The products subject to recall bear establishment numbers “51205 or P-51205” inside or under the USDA mark of inspection.

The problem was discovered after FSIS performed routine product testing of finished product containing RTE poultry products produced by BrucePac and confirmed those products positive for Listeria monocytogenes. Subsequent FSIS investigation identified BrucePac RTE chicken as the source of the Listeria monocytogenes.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider.

Consumption of food contaminated with L. monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Less commonly, persons outside these risk groups are affected.

“Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms,” the announcement added.

From the New York Post:

The USDA published a full list of products that were recalled.

“Restaurants, institutions, and other establishments are urged not to serve or use these products,” the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said on Wednesday.

“These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”

The recall includes approximately 75 products.

That’s what I thought - they need to actually spell out the company name and tell us the names these are sold under.

What does one do with 10 Million pounds of tainted meat?
You can’t use it for landfill. Seagulls would frown. Maybe it would make good fertilizer, if the bacteria can some how be removed.

Ha.

But did you see the beads of sweat coming down Chris Christie’s face? That was a man fearing a shortage.

Fish food:

Fish: Fish do not appear to be susceptible to Listeria infection, as they are ectothermic and do not have the same type of immune system as mammals.

That would be a good choice, for all the reasons you stated.
At least some benefit would be realized. Incineration would be time consuming, expensive and produce unhealthy fumes.
I suppose.

Where possible, buy directly from trustworthy farmers.

Just last week my neighbor’s steer was delivered to slaughter. 1150 lbs. I get half. Counting the price of the steer and slaughtering charges, I’m paying roughly $1450 for my half, to be delivered to my freezer next week. This is the fourth time we’ve done this since moving to rural Kentucky.

And yes, it is absolutely delicious - and we learned the quality of butchers can vary. We got us a good one...

BTW, though we got about 560 lbs, that includes bones, skin, etc. So we’re not getting 560 lbs of meat, but still, we’re getting quite a bit...

My brother in law has been sick from some bad meat that he bought. He has thrown up so much, he had to go to a Med Clinic last night for a fluid IV.
He probably should have gone to the hospital days ago...

Quite possible that some insect shipments could accidently get wolfbane flower mixed in. Then we would have to stop eating insects too.

Composting does the trick, as does high heat roasting.

Thats ok. I’m not worried. I seldom eat 10 million pounds of meat in one sitting.

Rookie.

There’s a Tyson plant in Logansport, Indiana that apparently hires Haitians to process their chicken. Luckily, I don’t use Tyson products at all.

We don’t eat out much, and don’t eat ready made stuff much at all. So we should be good, but thanks for posting.

Weaponized food processing?

Once is an event.
Twice is coincidence.
Three times is enemy action...

Give it to Mikey, he'll eat anything!

More likely feed it to the hogs...
