I think many of us come here for some fellowship with like minded conservative allies and it makes us happy to see that we are not alone.
But, over the years I have noticed something that seems amiss to me, which is the lack of responses to people who have expressed their opinion.
Many is the time that I see a comment to which no one has replied; a situation in which no one responds to a Freeper who has expressed an opinion.
I think most, if not all of us, would likely enjoy an acknowledgement that people have read our comment and agree with it, or even that people have read it and disagree with it! (So that we can have an argument, which is something we contrarians tend to enjoy! :) )
I urge people to respond to comments from other Freepers, especially if that comment is directed at you. I encourage Freepers to acknowledge the people who have posted a message to you, because we all want to believe our opinions matter and are worthy of consideration.
At the very least give them a "+1" (which means "UpVote") to indicate you've read their comment and agree with it. A more thoughtful reply is even better!
Let people know you care what they think and are not indifferent to their existence.
Not only should this boost the amount of traffic on Free Republic, it should encourage a happier more pleasant experience for all participants. It may even lead to more people wanting to join Free Republic!
Be kind to your web-footed friends, too.
What a cruel thing to do, forcing people to be kind. The next thing you know goodness and cheer will spread next. How dare you inflict this on people clinging to their bitterness. It’s all they have left and you wish to take that away too? it’s this thing here that ruins movies. Take Dickens A Christmas tale with the hero Ebenezer Scrooge and they turned him away to the Good Side. I have to turn the movie off near the end because of the sad ending. I cannot bear it.
To the point of being swollen and engorged.
There is a reason why you are invoked when people ask if "Laz" would "hit it." You have such a poetic way of putting things.
:)
What! Why I oughta...
I understand striving to be a kinder, better person.... I myself need plenty of remediation in that regard.
Seeking or yearning for affirmation/confirmation from others - especially internet people - is woefully misguided and weqk minded.
Save for the ones I know personally, I couldn't give a single f what any FR thinks about anything.
I always like to reply to posts here, but I've been told I have an annoying habit of "always trying to get the last word." LOL.
First time I've heard of what the "+1" meant, but I agree with you--our forum could use an injection of civility. It feels significantly different than when I first joined...over 25 years ago and I don't feel nearly as connected to the other users (or the site, for that matter.)
Still, we can all use some positive affirmation at times.
Agree.
:-)
bttt
lolol.
Well said. This is NOT Democratic Underground, we don’t need profanity or threats of violence against anyone.
Thank you. I think it would work to the betterment of all of us.
Something I forgot to add in my initial comment was that people often like to see their own statement quoted, and so I try to make a habit of grabbing an interesting bit of their comment and posting it so that they can have a bit of pride that someone else thought it was noteworthy. Also I think it helps other people get a better inkling what particular thing is being discussed.
Quoting people makes them happier, (I think) and helps others understand the conversation better.
I'm not directing this specifically at you, I just took the opportunity of your comment to mention it.
+1.
:)
Unless you're the lamp and not the man, in which case how do you type on a computer keyboard?
This is a masterpiece! :)
Some people have a talent for this stuff that I can only envy.
I’m glad I read down as far as your post; I was about to make the same smartass comment ;) Now I don’t have to.
what, are you new here?
that’s not what we do...
=)
Be Amazing. be Amazed.
Make it a Wonderful Day.
