I understand striving to be a kinder, better person.... I myself need plenty of remediation in that regard.
Seeking or yearning for affirmation/confirmation from others - especially internet people - is woefully misguided and weqk minded.
Save for the ones I know personally, I couldn't give a single f what any FR thinks about anything.
I think wanting affirmation is inherent in people, and it is the same for people here. I think acknowledging people will help Free Republic grow. We should want even the weak people who seek affirmation from people online.

What was it that Reagan said? A man that is 80% your ally is not your enemy?
We may not all agree, but being kind to everybody shouldn't steer us wrong, even if we aren't enthralled with what they think.
Increased camaraderie may pay rewards that we might not have anticipated.

It doesn’t mean anything much to me when I receive no responses; I just assume that people have nothing particular to say about what I posted. And when I don’t respond, it doesn’t mean I’m ignoring anyone; I just have nothing particular to say.
But the outright and often vulgar insults I see here, when people simply disagree with another’s opinion, are upsetting. I think suggesting that we refrain from those would be a lot more useful than encouraging the posting of a perfunctory ‘+1’.
