Interesting -- grapefruit inhibits pharmaceuticals, which becomes more significant as one gets older.

“grapefruit inhibits pharmaceuticals, which becomes more significant as one gets older.”

When I started on statins, I was told “no more grapefruit.” I do miss it.

Back in my golf pro days, we had members bringing us Ruby Reds from their trees by the dozens. They'd complete the gift w/ bottles of Absolut or Skyy Vodka. We had a top notch juicer and drank Greyhounds like they were Gatorade.

Today, I'd need 2 Omeprazoles to even start.

Heh... having disliked grapefruit for my entire life, I remember watching family members split one at breakfast.

But straight off the tree, nice and ripe, in Florida, it’s an entirely different experience, in a good way, a very good way. :^)

I’ve been told grapefruit does the opposite.
Elderly people tried to save money on pharmaceuticals. They’d take half a dose with a glass of grapefruit and received the full dose. Their meds lasted much longer. Pharma did not like that. They were losing $$$.
This may be an old wive’s tale but I’ve been told this by someone who works in the medical profession.

Thanks! Interesting article

"Seville oranges (often used to make orange marmalade), pomelos, and tangelos (a cross between tangerines and grapefruit) might have the same effect as grapefruit juice. Do not eat those fruits if your medicine interacts with grapefruit juice."

Local neighborhood lore tells of a midwife over 100 years ago who would tell local mine workers to put grapefruit skins on wounds (efficacy confirmed decades later by modern medicine).

On the flip side, doctors now warn to avoid ingesting grapefruit & its juice because it interferes with cardiovascular meds.

That’s more like it. :^) Not that we’ve learned not to trust big pharma or medical ‘studies’ or anything.

Years ago there was a letter to the WSJ (probably during my college days, I had an econ prof who got us all a rate and required it) in response to an article about a then-new study that found that, contrary to prior claims, higher sodium intake resulted in lower BP. The wag wrote that it just went to show “that medical research should be taken with a grain of - uh, never mind.”

What’s weirdest about grapefruit is, they are big (unlike grapes), don’t have the same color as grapes, don’t taste like grapes, and aren’t even an ingredient in Grape-Nuts cereal, which also weirdly doesn’t contain either grapes or nuts. WTH...

Thanks for that link

It never occurred to me (duh) the guy had his own channel. I saw and liked one of his videos a while back. Looks like quite a treasure trove.
