Nashville food banks are being pushed to their limits with people needing help now more than ever before.
Over the past couple of years, demand has skyrocketed at The Branch because of higher grocery prices.
Angie Thomas said they now serve more than 1,200 families per month. There was a constant line of cars outside of the building on Wednesday for their senior food box giveaway.
“We have a heart for this community,” Thomas said. “We want this community to thrive. When we are able to provide something that our community needs, like food, like English language classes, like entrepreneur classes, we feel like we are doing what we are supposed to be doing.”
The Branch currently has more than 400 volunteers per month, but Thomas said they need a lot more help to shift back to their pre-pandemic model that allowed people to come into the warehouse and select items off the shelves.
They are hoping to start that again early next year, Thomas said. Volunteers currently work to sort food into carts inside the facility and then bring them outside and load them into cars.
Thomas said they also need more donations to keep up with their constantly growing list of families. A $25 donation allows them to provide more than $300 with of food to people like Deborah Grissom.
“They fill the need,” Grissom said. “They fill that gap, especially when you are on social security and your funds are limited. You have to eat. You have to do your laundry. This is just such a great benefit for seniors and people that need the extra help.”

Bad economy hasn’t seemed to stop people from going to concerts, restaurants casinos, expensive vacations, athletic contests, getting huge tattoos, $500 bottle of wine, getting streaming services, funding Amazon, going to Disney world, etc..
The people who suffer the most are the infirm elderly, and drug addicts or mentally ill folks and their children.
“Camp of the Saints”, we’re committing suicide
Yeah...with a Lovin’ Spoonful of mint jelly.
I have been making the same argument for some time, BUT for the first time, I was bowled over by the prices at the grocery store...they have just SPIKED over the past few days.
Quartering invading troops disguised as charity.
There are a number of bloggers on you tube and all they do is brag and brag and brag about all their free food from the pantries..its a contest for them...
Manufacturers trying to get as much money as the market will bear...before it crashes...or if Trump gets in and prices drop due to increased profitable manufacturing enterprises...
There you have it: ‘like English language classes’
But I thought all of this welfare was being given to American Citizens! You mean it is going to people who can not speak English?
Why that can not be!
I have just been told that the budget problems are caused by those greedy seniors. The ones that paid into the system at gun point their entire lives while they were promised that they would get a dribble back when they reached 67.
Surely there is some mistake.
Yeah, it has.
I know that is not what fakebook would have you believe but a lot of people are not doing any of those things. Some are not doing them any more and most could never do them.
All that need be done is to build a wall, enforce the border, and expel every last illegal.
Many illegals suck up welfare.
Many illegal take jobs that would be filled by Americans on welfare.
Housing would become cheaper, as would insurance and so many things.
The budget would balance.
“Bad economy hasn’t seemed to stop people from going to concerts, restaurants casinos, expensive vacations, athletic contests, getting huge tattoos, $500 bottle of wine, getting streaming services, funding Amazon, going to Disney world, etc.”
These people are living on CREDIT and will eventually BE the people using food pantries.
People are so DUMB about their money, it never ceases to amaze me.
That said, my ‘Vice Fund’ is doing nicely. It invests in smokes, booze, casinos and weaponry. Those are always the LAST things people give up in any kind of economic crisis. ;)
I agree. Did a small order for pick-up at Walmart, tomorrow. Prices area again on the rise - especially for the BASICS - milk, eggs, butter.
It’s maddening!
I’ve seen those. Bunch of LOSERS.
“The ones that paid into the system at gun point their entire lives while they were promised that they would get a dribble back when they reached 67.”
Love that! Well, not LOVE-lOVE, but you know what I mean. ;)
I have encouraged everyone I know that is ‘of age’ to take SS as soon as they are eligible. Crash the system! Let’s just get this Slow Government Suicide OVER with!
Ugh!
Probably should make people show their ID’s to prove they’re American citizens. They’d be helping Americans then and probably have enough.
You are correct. Except for Mother Government giving ‘We The People’ a balanced budget.
Unfortunately, her finger will ALWAYS be on the scale. :(
Nashville has enormous doper camper problem
They and charities enable it bigly
Yes an abundance
Plenty fentanyl too
Around 20 bucks a day to stay ripped
Free food too
And tents and shower trucks pull up
Oh forgot free clean needles too
Think kind of Portland on the Cumberland
...and the Fed today? 50 points? BIG red flag. Someone on an economic forum I follow said ‘Get ready for $300 Christmas trees!’
