My husband works for TIAA. (They dropped the -CREF).

A basic car doesn’t cost $65,000. We just took our youth and some adult children and a random friend of Drama Queen’s and had our son-in-law’s parents for a night at a VRBO house in the mountains, and the whole week for everyone didn’t cost anything like $12,500. The house was in the $2000s.

But yeah, you can spend $16 if you go out for a burger and fries. Wages are up. I always say, “We have food at home.”

Family of 4 at Disney could cost you 12,500 for a week. Probably more.

I wouldn’t do that. I don’t see why anyone would, but that’s their business. We can rent a house at the beach or in the mountains and spend a week with way more than 4 people for a lot less.

Of course, a vacation *can* cost $12,500. A vacation *can* cost $50,000. But it doesn’t have to, even if you stay in a nice house instead of tents.

My dad was vey frugal. We went to Disney World from Michigan and camped all the way except in anaheim. 2 days in 1965. The Watts riots were very exciting. haha.

I went to Disneyland once in the early 70s. We lived in San Diego then. Sea World was much better, and so was the San Diego Zoo.
