The chaplain of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s field artillery regiment said there is no excuse for the Democratic VP pick to have abandoned his National Guard unit before a critical deployment — not even running for Congress.
“In our world, to drop out after a WARNORD [warning order] is issued is cowardly, especially for a senior enlisted guy,” retired Capt. Corey Bjertness, now a pastor in Horace, North Dakota, told The Post.
Bjertness, 61, was the chaplain for the 1st Battalion, 125th Field Artillery, of which Walz was command sergeant major before retiring in 2005, two months before the unit deployed to Iraq. Walz has said he did so to run for Congress, and he was elected the next year.
“Running for Congress is not an excuse,” Bjertness said of Walz’s decision to quit. “I stopped everything and went to war. I left my wife with three teenagers and a 6-year-old and I was gone for 19 months.”
Thomas Behrends, the command sergeant major who replaced Walz, previously told The Post of the Minnesota governor: “He had the opportunity to serve his country, and said ‘Screw you’ to the United States.”
Bjertness added that leaving his troops at such a critical time was irresponsible of Walz, who served for more than two decades with the Army National Guard in Nebraska and Minnesota.
“That means that a new master sergeant needs to come in and to get to know everyone. Their task is to keep everyone safe and healthy,” the pastor said.

He lies about everything he has ever done.
The most egregious of the military aspect is he has had so many chances to verbally correct those erroneous introductions that he saw combat and failed to do so.
Walz took a hit below the waterline. The ship is still afloat, but the problems will increase over time. What a weasel.
.
And Walz, Spent money on everything, couldn’t spend enough, but said in an old debate that he’s for Lessening Social Security pay and increasing the Retirement age.
You see that pattern, they can’t do enough giveaways, they spend like drunken sailors, but then want to cut Social Security.
It’s an Anti-American and Anti-Middle Class attitude that so many of the Fat Bureaucrats have, like Lindsey Graham, for one.
“It was love at first sight. The first time Yossarian saw the chaplain he fell madly in love with him.”
— Joseph Heller
Pretty bad when an ELCA pastor is blasting you, rightly no less.
People who knew Walz before politics don’t think much of him. Democrat politicians worship the ground he walks on.
I wuz thinkin’ the same thin!
...I would dearly like to think so, but for most Americans, this is a tempest in a teapot.....how many of your neighbors are veterans of the United States Armed Forces...? where we live....none.....so what do Joe Sixpack and Susie Potts care about any of this...? means nothing to them......

according to the leftiests on fakebook all the people coming out from his unit (including the chaplin) are liars.
No matter what you put in their face fact wise.
the left is a group of idiots, much like the borg. When you take them off the network or outside of their talking points they shut down.
In my quest to see it all, I needed that ‘X’ in the box. Totally unexpected, Walz must have been a huge dick.
Walz even has God’s rep telling what kind of person Walz is.
Democrats are all fake and phony.
I also knew of a reservist from my base who did the same thing that Walz did. That person was going to be deployed, and that person said, and I quote, "I didn't join the Reserves to go to war." Needless, that person didn't have a lot of friends after that. All any of us could think was "coward."
And that's what Walz is, a coward. I do not believe he will garner many votes from the rank and file military member.
Walz is just another person who took the pay and perks and ran away when duty called.
E-8 versus E-9, that’s a little inside baseball, except that it’s part of the story about him not shipping out with his unit. Being disloyal to your comrades is reprehensible even to nonmilitary people.
Somebody higher up allowed him to retire. Was his time up and his retirement rubber stamped? Probably so. That said, he could have been kept around through stop-loss programs if properly activated by congress or executive order..
Nope. Despite Democrats’ bleats that this is nothing, it isn’t and it won’t go away. This Walz pick turned out to be something very bad that could have been prevented had they done their vetting job correctly.
