Representational art discovered in a cave on Karampuang Hill on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi has been dated to at least 51,200 years ago by a team of researchers led by Adhi Agus Oktaviana of Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency, according to a BBC News report. The scientists determined the minimum age of the artwork by dating the fine layers of calcium carbonate that had formed on top of it over the millennia with a technique called laser ablation U-series analysis. The images depict a wild pig with its mouth partly open and three human-like figures. The largest human figure is holding a rod and has both of its arms extended. The second figure stands in front of the pig with its head near the pig's snout. This figure also carries a rod, which may be at the pig's throat. The legs of the third human figure are splayed outward, while one hand reaches for the pig's head. "The painting tells a complex story," said Maxime Aubert of Griffith University. "It is the oldest evidence we have for storytelling. It shows that humans at the time had the capacity to think in abstract terms," he explained.

Very cool, and definitely fits the ‘abstract’ style of artwork, at least at this point, based on my thorough understanding of art. Perhaps it wasn’t as abstract when first painted, though.

led by Adhi Agus Oktaviana of Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency Can we get some Western experts to validate this date? Very often these local officials exaggerate the importance of artifacts in their own country. I would be more comfortable with the 51,000 year estimate if someone from Western Europe or North America confirms it.

Why could Joe Biden not have done this drawing the other day? It seems to me that the age given of so many things nowadays is nothing but a guess anyway. Yes, I know they use scientific means to determine them, but none of these long term guesses agree with what what the Bible seems to say about the age of the earth. So did these things happen according to someone’s imagination or what?

I just saw a cartoon with two cavemen. The one is doing the cave drawings on the wall. The other one is saying “Oh great - there goes our security deposit!”

Here’s my theory on ‘cave art’:
It’s not ‘art’.
Who has time to decorate the inside of the cave?
The cave WOMEN.
These so-called cave art drawings are actually paleolithic “SHOPPING LISTS”.
They are INSTRUCTIONS to the CAVE MEN on what to bring home for dinner.
And some even have instructions on HOW to do it....................

I guess it would depend on if you “think” the Bible says the earth is young or old.
I read it that in the beginning(whenever that was) God created it. At some point in time, later, the earth was void and without form. So how much time passed and what went on here between it being created and when it became void and without form? Who knows.

Oh... dunno, good question. I’m inclined to think it was a different ancestral group that may endure in the genome of that part of the world.
