80% of Americans test positive for chemical found in Cheerios, Quaker Oats that may cause infertility, delayed puberty: study
New York Post ^ | Feb. 15, 2024 | Shannon Thaler

Four out of five Americans are being exposed to a little-known chemical found in popular oat-based foods — including Cheerios and Quaker Oats — that is linked to reduced fertility, altered fetal growth, and delayed puberty.

The Environmental Working Group published a study in the Journal of Exposure Science & Environmental Epidemiology on Thursday that found a staggering 80% of Americans tested positive for a harmful pesticide called chlormequat.

The “highly toxic agricultural chemical” is federally allowed to be used on oats and other grains imported to the US, according to the EWG. When applied to oat and grain crops, chlormequat alters a plant’s growth, preventing it from bending over and thus making it easier to harvest, per the EWG...

Another particularly concerning data point: After testing for the presence of chlormequat in urine collected from 96 people between 2017 and 2023, the EWG’s tests “found higher levels and more frequent detections of chlormequat in the 2023 samples…which suggests consumer exposure to chlormequat could be on the rise.”

However, the EWG noted, that the US Environmental Protection Agency UNDER PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN'S administration proposed allowing the first-ever use of chlormequat on barley, oat, triticale, and wheat grown in the US.

It’s not just in Cheerios, it’s in all kinds of food.

“Does eating different parts effect different sexes of different races differently or is it mostly just a silly story?”

Whomever knows the truth one way or another isn’t spilling the beans. Pretty sure not one of us here knows for sure.

I know it’s anecdotal, but my SIL has never given store-bought chicken, milk, produce for her family. Never had the kids vaccinated. The boys range from 12 to 21 now, and they never .. I mean NEVER ... have been sick or seen a doctor as far as I know.

It is my understanding that oats is one of the few crops that is not currently GMO.

I guess we have to shift over to GMO Wheaties and GMO Corn Flakes.

If chlormequat does to humans what it does to plants, then the worst that could happen is that it would improve your posture.

We’ve certainly got a sickly and stupid populace, and this is just one of many environmental assaults they have suffered.

Oh my goodness!

I’d be rich-rich-rich if I had all the money back for all the Quaker oats I consumed as an integral part of about 60-years of bodybuilding...

Don’t know how I’m going to break the news to my 85-year-old wife of 64 years that there are only blanks left in the gun...

Maybe, at 90, I should just not mention it...
If I remember it...

And in 2017, in the first survey to look at the prevalence of the virus in the adult population, the CDC reported that over 42 percent of Americans between the ages of 18 and 59 were infected with genital human papillomavirus. (https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/databriefs/db280.pdf)

More than 90 percent of sexually active men and 80 percent of sexually active women will be infected with HPV in their lifetime. - https://www.health.state.mn.us/data/mcrs/data/qfhpv.html

More stats on preventable diseases.

That's awesome and I wish you many more years. My VA doctor scoffed when I attributed clean cardio despite hypertension to the magic of oatmeal. He's passed on now.

Watched Jack Lalanne's show every morning I could and drew inspiration from his positive attitude and dietary advice. While I despise the modern term "influencer" he was definitely that in the best way possible.

This is a tough one because growing grains for home use is pretty hard to do. You need a LOT of land and it’s a LOT of work. You need good equipment, too. It’s not like you can hand-seed an acre of wheat or oats yourself.

If you can buy organic grains locally, that’s the thing to do. Or if you have Amish near you, you could probably get some quality grains through them. Otherwise learn to eat grain-free/gluten-free.

https://www.eatthis.com/grain-free-diet/

On a grain-free diet, you can eat:

Nuts
Fruit
Vegetables, both leafy greens and starchy alike except corn
Meat
Fish and seafood
Dairy
Eggs
Legumes
Seeds
Sugar

Here are the foods you should avoid while following a grain-free diet. Essentially anything that contains gluten or grains is a no-go unless the package clearly indicates it’s grain-free.

Cereal and granola
Bread
Quinoa
Pasta
Rice
Corn
Oatmeal
Crackers and pretzels
Sorghum syrup
Pancakes and pastries

Any food product that contains flour or the grains specified here and above should be eliminated.

I am a pretzel addict, so I’m pretty much a goner. I have accepted my fate. ;)
