High consumption of soybean oil has been linked to obesity and diabetes and potentially autism, Alzheimer’s disease, anxiety, and depression. Add now to this growing list ulcerative colitis, a form of inflammatory bowel disease, or IBD, characterized by chronic inflammation of the large intestine.
Researchers at the University of California, Riverside, examined the gut of mice that were consistently fed a diet high in soybean oil for up to 24 weeks in the lab. They found beneficial bacteria decreased and harmful bacteria (specifically, adherent invasive Escherichia coli) increased — conditions that can lead to colitis.
Soybean oil is the most commonly used edible oil in the United States and is increasingly being used in other countries, particularly Brazil, China, and India. In the U.S., soybean production took off in the 1970s for use as animal feed; a byproduct of the increasing trend in growth was soybean oil. Soybeans, a good source of protein, are easy and cheap to grow.
“Our work challenges the decades-old thinking that many chronic diseases stem from the consumption of excess saturated fats from animal products, and that, conversely, unsaturated fats from plants are necessarily more healthful,” said Poonamjot Deol, an assistant professional researcher in the Department of Microbiology and Plant Pathology and a co-corresponding author on the paper published July 3 in Gut Microbes, an open access journal.

I eat low-carb and still eat plenty of veggies. Most oils are processed crap.
Well, this explains Soybois.
As I understand it, butter, even lard is better (less harmful) than soy or canola. (Do your own DD.)
Interestingly, the impact is likely greater on the vegetarian/vegan folks, who ironically insist that we omnivores follow their cultish lifestyle.
We are governed by elites that think "Dr.Strangelove" was a step forward in human existence. A business plan really.

Sure, lets introduce massive amounts of estrogen into our food supply and turn all the little boys into middle of the road "its". Common sense? Time to start using it.

While it is true most oils labled “vegetable oil” either are just soybean oil or contain a mix of soybean oil and/or corn oil and or canola oil.
But people who cook a lot at home can chose canola oil and olive oil and avoid the less healthy “vegetable oil”.
The caveat is when it comes to eating out and store bought foods, you can’t be sure which “vegetable” oil is used/included.
However, the level of soybean oil fed to the rats may have been extreme and not analogous to what most people consume in any manner.
Canola oil, soybean oil, and corn oil all have been demonized. I get that lard is now considered “safe”, then there’s peanut oil, avocado oil, and grapeseed oil, all of which are twice the price, or more, than vegetable oil. I buy olive oil for salads and some cooking, but there’s no guarantee it’s not adulterated with cheap vegetable oil, unless I buy the really pricy Italian brands, which I can’t afford.. I very occasionally buy peanut oil, but for $17 A gallon, it doesn’t go far for deep frying. So, I’ll stick to vegetable oil and hope there’s more cottonseed than soybean in it.
Two vegetarian friends of mine relied on seed oil for years, one took a vitamin supplement laced with soy for about 10 years, every day. They’ve got hypothyroidism now and have learned too late that many nutritionists and functional medicine practitioners consider soy a culprit in thyroid disease.
Not so long ago, experts told us to use vegetable oils for health.
We’ve gone to mostly beef tallow at my place. Olive oil in some instances.
According to ConsumerLab.com, there was only one major olive oil you could trust: “California Olive Ranch 100% California Extra Virgin Olive Oil.”
Canola oil is Rapeseed oil. It has been around for thousands of years, and was considered unfit for human consumption until the 1950s. People used it in lamps and such.
They didn’t like the name and changed it. Canadian Oil Low-Acid. “Can-o-LA”.
Remember when McDonalds fries were made with beef tallow?
