I don't care what FR neocons say
UK/US are officially bombing one of the poorest countries on Earth.
It's unconscionable.
I want peace. Enough.
Not at all.
Totally different.
My point and this is my final point... is...
At least with the Reps you get them on the record and they’re elected.
So yeah, bring the case to Congress. I will begrudgingly accept it if they authorize it.
Even Bush knew you had to do this in 2003 or are we fine with letting the president go to war and bomb countries without such authorization/
I dont get it. I’m not happy anyway not as happy as some of the care free posters here who are fine with it because its “ragheads” as the target
This action is costly and possibly foolish
Them too.
Start wars.
The U.S. destroyed the Barbary pirates because they were preying on American cargo ships.
If President Jefferson had authorized the U.S. Navy to protect Danish ships flagged in Panama or Bermuda and transporting cargo from Asia to Europe with crews of Filipino sailors, he would have been set on fire on the front lawn of Monticello.
Actually, the non-hidden-hand in the hostage taking of Americans in Israel (ham ass), the 170+ attacks on American forces in Iraq and Syria (shia militias) and the targeting of American Navy vessels (houthi) is exactly Iran.
All these peripheral attacks on us can only be permanently stopped by regime change in Iran. A nuke would do it cheaply, a la Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
But since we clearly haven’t the nerve, political will or public support for that, we get these comparatively niggling attacks.
Trump would have them on their heels and worried about his response (deterrence) so that the attacks would be minimized.
But really, there is no end to this civilizational struggle until one side or the other has their government destroyed the will of their people permanently broken so that they never wage war again.
I do not forsee this happening in my lifetime. So I buy ammo. The war will be coming here.
If they are so poor ... how can they afford to be attacking everyone in the shipping lanes?? How much do those drones cost? How about the missiles? May be spend all that money on the “Poor” people and stop the attacks.
In light of everything we should have learned from U.S. history, your certainty about this is probably the most troubling thing I've read on FR in a long time.
And the Houtis were attacking AMERICAN SHIPS
Right. Just like everything would be fixed in the Middle East with a regime change in Iraq in 2003.
I'm assuming you posted this as a joke.
MAGA and denigrating US might are not congruent.
MAGA and not protecting international commercial interests is impossible
#Trumpgetsit
We should have kept playing Iraq and Iran playing off each other like PresidentbReagan did.
Joe Biden is not the one making these decisions.
Secretary of defense if hospitilized in intensive care.
If President Jefferson had authorized the U.S. Navy to protect Danish ships flagged in Panama or Bermuda and transporting cargo from Asia to Europe with crews of Filipino sailors, he would have been set on fire on the front lawn of Monticello.
If this was the early 1800s and President Jefferson was dealing with a crisis involving the Barbary pirates, he wouldn't have given a fraction of a damn if those pirates were attacking European ships. There would have been no U.S. Navy ships over there for the Barbary pirates to attack.
“No offense, but that is naive at best and utterly delusional at worst. 1. What AMERICAN interests are at stake here?”
Freedom of navigation of the world’s waterways. We are a maritime nation, and very much dependent on freedom of navigation of those waterways. If we were to lose that freedom, we would collapse.
“2. Are you going to tell us with a straight face — here in January of 2024, and with all that we’ve learned since 2015-16 — that you still trust the clowns in our government to act in our own national interests?”
Well, first off, you do not identify yourself as an American; and your profile page displays the national flag of Zambia. So, when you say “our government” I have no idea to which government you are referring. And, Zambia is a landlocked nation in Southern Africa; so, it’s maritime prowess is...well, suspect. But, to humor you, I will say that I do not trust “the clowns” in MY government. But, I’m old school: I do not equate my country with its government; although there may be some rare instances when the government acts in the best interests of the country, at which time I will support it. There is an old saying: “My country always; its government only when it deserves it.”
Baloney. There's absolutely no reason for the U.S. taxpayer to provide protection for industries that have left this country specifically to circumvent U.S. laws, regulations and taxes.
#MASCAA = Make American Supply Chains American Again
No.
This isn’t a neocon thing. Punishing piracy, “felonies committed on the high seas, and offences against the law of nations” is a power granted to Congress by the Constitution.
