Jack LaLanne (born September 26, 1914, San Francisco, California, U.S.—died January 23, 2011, Morro Bay, California) American exercise and nutrition guru, television personality, and motivational speaker.
During his childhood, LaLanne suffered from poor health and erratic behaviour, which he would come to believe was caused by a sugar addiction. As a teen, he attended a lecture by nutritionist Paul Bragg, after which LaLanne cut sugar from his diet and embarked on an exercise routine.
These lifestyle changes would come to define his decades-long quest to promote healthy living in America. In 1936 he opened the first public health club (later a chain) in the United States, located in Oakland, California. I remember well back in the 60/70’s his TV show in So Cal. “The Jack LaLanne Show” The opening credits he would be performing jumping jacks kind of blacked out in silhouette.
Yes! I get the honey and cayenne pepper. Drink a splash in some water every day (sometimes twice).
Same here. His Wikipedia page is very interesting--it appeara that he was quite accomplished. People often scoff at the first person to do a thing, and he was definitely a pioneer.
Same here. Our housekeeper would do the exercises with him and I would join in. I couldn’t have been older than 2 or 3 but I remember it well.
Exercise is good for you.
Anyone who tells you to get up and move is not a charlatan. They might not be right in anything else but in that one thing they are right.
Even Jesus told people to "take up your bed and Walk" < /jk>
I knew a guy around the turn of the century, a term we don’t use anymore... who would and could swim miles. He was about 55 years young, and he lived in the neighborhood of Illahee WA. He would swim to Bainbridge Island and back for exercise. The Puget Sound has few currents there, but the water is in the 40F range. I was with him near Manchester fuel docks in his boat. We got around to Port Orchard trolling gear and worms for Cutts, and he said I am going to the Boat Dock, which is in Bremerton. He jumped out and swam there. We met up later and he needed a ride home, he was soused and flirting with waitresses. He was a very fit man. Last I saw him he was in Alzheimers care. He was around 5’7” and 200 pounds. I guess it kept him warm.
