Jack LaLanne (born September 26, 1914, San Francisco, California, U.S.—died January 23, 2011, Morro Bay, California) American exercise and nutrition guru, television personality, and motivational speaker.
During his childhood, LaLanne suffered from poor health and erratic behaviour, which he would come to believe was caused by a sugar addiction. As a teen, he attended a lecture by nutritionist Paul Bragg, after which LaLanne cut sugar from his diet and embarked on an exercise routine.
These lifestyle changes would come to define his decades-long quest to promote healthy living in America. In 1936 he opened the first public health club (later a chain) in the United States, located in Oakland, California. Among his other innovations, LaLanne originated the leg-extension machine, now a fitness standard

I was a stay at home mom who did the exercises with Jack LaLanne. IIRC he had a big white dog and he used to say “beginners quit” so that people would not overdo it.
I also remember the TV show “15 minute workout” which featured super fit females doing lots of bounce stretching, which is very bad for one’s body. I don’t think that show even intended for anyone to exercise with at home.
Met him a few times when he still lived in Hermosa Beach, he was a pretty nice guy
You can still purchase the Jack LaLanne power juicers.
Jack LaLanne is dead?
/s
I miss him. Watched him for years as a kid. A positive influence and was always learning something.
100 pullups? 1000 situps? swim bays and channels. that little guy was super human. yes watched him on black and white tv. got me going on athletics.
Jack was the reason I became a fitness trainer. I remember my mom working out with him from television in the early 60s.
:)
There is big money in making fat people grovel around on the floor and making them pay you to do it.
That was explained there was nothing else available at the time.
My dad would say, “If you think he is faking, just keep up with him for 10 minutes. 1/2 of a show from commercial to commercial.”
Jack LaLane was the MAN! We even did some juicing. Jack LaLane was the fix to your ‘big dude kicking sand in your face’ and taking your girl on the ads in the comic books.
Priceless stuff!
That was Charles Atlas.
“As a little kid, I still remember seeing Jack on black and white TV with his chair doing all sorts of exercises.”
And don’t forget the two white German shepherds. I seem to recall one of them was named Happy.
Anyone else remember Jane Fonda urinal mats?
Oh that’s right! I forgot about them.
