Huge 'sunspot archipelago' 15 times wider than Earth is spotted on the Sun - and scientists warn it could bombard our planet with solar flares capable of causing devastating blackouts Spots on sun described as 'archipelago' as they look like a collection of islands These planet-sized dark spots can release charged particles that hit the Earth By JONATHAN CHADWICK FOR MAILONLINE

But the latest set of snaps from NASA actually show a cluster of 'sunspots' – cooler parts on the sun's surface caused by massive changes in our star's magnetic field.
The images were captured by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory, which has been monitoring the sun from space for more than a decade.

Is that what they are going to blame when they turn the lights off hoping we freeze in the dark?
Pathetic. I’ve observered more sunspots. Look at sunspots history count.More likely to enhance shortwave propagation.
We should pass a law against ‘scientists’.
They are already outlawing certain scientists of wrongthink.
Data must comport to predetermined conclusions.
@ 2 chuckled out loud!
Maybe we could launch some Coppertone Sunscreen P-8.
@ 8 Not an unfair statement.
It may look frightening, but we learned a lot from what happened in Quebec in 1989. We now have multiple satellites regularly monitoring the Sun, and if we get a massive coronal mass ejection (CME), we have several hours to start implementing safety measures, including cutting connections to power transmission lines, to slow and stop the propogation of a possible electromagtic pulse from the CME.
Um okay, it will happen right before the elections.
Just 2 weeks to stop the spread of sunspots
Greatest acceptance speech, ever. Neil didn’t look amused, though.
No he doesn’t. :-)
Whiskey sours are known to cause devastating blackouts too
I’m surprised the left haven’t had a cow over the terms “blackouts” and “brownouts”lol
If it clears up, I will have to check it out with my telescope. Should be interesting.
One of my projects is to make a Faraday Cage. I keep putting it off, but it may be too late to make one this time. Gotta get ‘er done…
For what purpose?
Lol, you read their playbook!
