A shoplifter caught stealing got knocked out by a coke bottle thrown by a store employee while trying to make his getaway. He found out.

Not picking on you, but that is 100% not correct.
A person can be found guilty of shoplifting if they evince an intent to steal, for instance by secreting an item, but there are other circumstances. Leaving the premises is just one possible circumstance.

That 2-liter Coke must have been frozen solid to knock the thief out so easily. He went down like a bowling pin. The shoplifter was so busy telling the Door employee to move outta his way so he could finish his theft, he didn’t notice somebody preparing to launch that Soda Missile.
