A Delta Air Lines pilot became incapacitated during a flight from Paris Charles de Gaulle (France) to Los Angeles, California (USA).
The flight was enroute in Canadian airspace when the pilot became “medically incapacitated.”
The crew declared an emergency and diverted the plane for an emergency landing in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The incident occurred on DL-291 on September 22, 2023.
The Aviation Herald reports:
A Delta Airlines Airbus A330-900, registration N422DZ performing flight DL-291 from Paris Charles de Gaulle (France) to Los Angeles,CA (USA), was enroute at FL360 about 440nm north of Minneapolis,MN (USA) in Canadian Airspace when one of the flight crew members became medically incapacitated and was taken to the cabin for care. The flight crew member that was on rest at the time assumed the duties of the ailing pilot, the crew declared emergency, descended to FL240 and diverted to Minneapolis for a safe landing about 75 minutes later.
The Canadian TSB reported the ailing pilot was taken to hospital for examination.
The aircraft remained on the ground for about 2.5 hours, then continued the flight to Los Angeles arriving at the destination with a delay of about 6 hours.
This is the third pilot incapacitation or death 100 Percent Fed Up has reported this week.
100 Percent Fed Up reported on the sudden passing of a 37-year-old Alaska Airlines pilot during his layover.
In addition, the captain of an Austrian Airlines flight started to feel unwell and became incapacitated during descent into Vienna.

I don’t want to say it was the vaxx but......
Nope. Sometimes very junior reserve pilots are quick called if needed. When I flew, sometimes I was called out and had 90 minutes to be on the plane in uniform and ready to close the door for departure. I once was junior by over 20+ years to everyone with one of the flight attendants having a 1960 something seniority date.
All are experienced though. Howevah.... once those diversity hires go through with them being hired by being in a special group, that goes out the window IN MY OPINION.
Obviously needs a booster.

“Safe and Effective” (TM). Once you’re dead from a sudden blood clot it is 100% certain that you won’t get COVID. Can’t get any more effective than that.
Left seat and right seat are both pilots. I didn't see anything in the article specifying what seat the stricken pilot was in or what seat the replacement took. If the left seat pilot was stricken, I'd think the left seat would be filled by whichever of the remaining pilots is most qualified to do so.
Many airlines required the booster, so 3+ covid shots for most pilots.
It’s being proposed to cut to one to save money.
I have a relative with American who goes to Tokyo, HK, and Seoul all the time. Sometimes South America, but the best money is in the trans-Pacific trips.
The VAXX strikes again.
I worked at NORAD for over a decade. We would constantly monitor something called the Domestic Events Network (referred to as the DEN) that was set up in the wake of 9/11. It's an FAA-sponsored telephonic conference call that is in use 24/7. You can hear anything of interest dealing with aviation (mostly commercial aviation) over the network. Pilot incapacitation would most definitely be reported over the DEN.
Even with all of my time monitoring US airspace, I'm struggling to recall where an airline pilot had a medical issue serious enough to require special handling of an aircraft. I think I may have heard one or two. In fact, a story that sticks out far more is when a pilot went to the lavatory and locked himself out of the cockpit. The copilot had to fly the plane and land it by himself. Link to article
These events were extremely rare prior to the last couple of years. Now, we have stories of pilots having heart attacks in flight, or the one where a pilot died during takeoff being reported on what seems like a regular basis.
“... being reported on what seems like a regular basis.”
Odd how that is. I wonder whatever could it be?....................
Its been over 10 years since I was offered anything other than peanuts.
We’re also out of coffee.

Three for that route.
Must just be some crazy bad luck...that just happened to start around the same time as something. Coincidentally, of course.
In any case, doctors are baffled.

Don’t drink the coffee. Don’t ever drink the coffee. Or the water from the tap in the lav.
