New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers' 2023 season may be over before it ever really got started. After the quarterback was injured on his fourth play of the year, head coach Robert Saleh told reporters following the Jets' 22-16 overtime victory over the Buffalo Bills that they fear the four-time NFL MVP tore his Achilles. There's an MRI scheduled for Tuesday to confirm.
"It's not good," Saleh said, per CBS Sports Lead NFL Insider Jonathan Jones.
The injury, if confirmed, would be season-ending. On the Jets' first drive Monday night, Rodgers was injured and helped off the field by trainers. After a visit to the blue medical tent, he was carted to the locker room. After initially being labeled as questionable to return with an ankle injury, he was later downgraded to out. The Jets announced that his X-rays were negative.
Rodgers suffered the injury after being sacked by veteran pass rusher Leonard Floyd on a first-and-10 with 11:40 remaining in the first quarter. While it appeared at first that Rodgers was OK, he went back down to the turf while officials stopped play.

— ESPN (@espn) September 12, 2023 Trainers attended to Rodgers before helping him off the field while former No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson replaced Rodgers under center. Coach Saleh told reporters after the game that Wilson will be the guy moving forward.
According to SportsLine's projections, if Rodgers were to miss the remainder of the season, New York's chances of success would naturally take a major hit.
Rodgers, of course, was arguably the story of the NFL offseason, as the Green Bay Packers legend was dealt to the Jets for a first-round pick, second-round pick, sixth-round pick and a conditional 2024 second-round pick. The conditional second-round pick becomes a first-rounder if Rodgers plays 65% of the snaps in 2023.
The Jets were searching for consistency at the quarterback position, and landed a Super Bowl champion, five-time All-Pro and 10-time Pro Bowler. However, New York's football hopes and dreams have been put on hold until we learn more about the injury Rodgers sustained.
Better than Joe Theisman.
Carson Wentz had his own problems and issues.
But Howie et al are villains in the way how they mind-f’d Wentz. ‘You’re our Franchise quarterback’ out of one side of the mouth then they draft Hurts in the first round.
Even if they had called the foul, and penalized 15 yards from the spot of the foul, approximately the 23 yard line, the Jets would have still had 4 downs to make a TD or a FG........................
So he truly is following in Brett Favre’s footsteps. Expect to see him in purple next season as he replaces Kirk Cousins as the Vikings starting quarterback.
However it seems behind the scenes Wentz was a "me me me" guy and the locker room didn't like him. I was ticked off when they built a shrine to Nick Foles during the playoffs because I was like 'that's disrespetful to Carson!' but I now think that was exactly the point. Darren Sproles claimed that Wentz said he hoped the team lost since he wasn't playing.
But you have to know that Howie knew this stuff and he wanted a plan B. Good thing he did.
On the lighter side, the Packers STILL beat the Bears without Rodgers under center. The Bears, and Justin Fields, are gonna be a joke this year. What's sad is that they have a quarterback who is much better then Fields riding the bench in Bagent.
Well at least we know who will finish second behind the Lions in the division.
I really don’t want to be that guy, but Rodgers has been such a jerk, hard not to be a little happy.
He kept getting hurt. And not progressing when he wasn’t hurt. NFL always stands for Not For Long.
I suspect his old buddy, David Bakhtiari will suffer a sympathy injury next weekend.
As a Bears fan, I always wished for Rogers to get his butt handed to him in a game, but I do wish him the best, his season, if not his career, may be over.
Hate to see this, but that’s the risk taken in pro football.
The worst suspicions are true:

And that’s a wrap.
Rodgers is 39 yo. His career could be largely over.
He’ll be hanging out with the Manning Brothers on Monday Nights for the rest of the season.
Well, now you have Jordan Love to deal with, and it looks like that won’t be a piece of cake, either!
