New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers' 2023 season may be over before it ever really got started. After the quarterback was injured on his fourth play of the year, head coach Robert Saleh told reporters following the Jets' 22-16 overtime victory over the Buffalo Bills that they fear the four-time NFL MVP tore his Achilles. There's an MRI scheduled for Tuesday to confirm.
"It's not good," Saleh said, per CBS Sports Lead NFL Insider Jonathan Jones.
The injury, if confirmed, would be season-ending. On the Jets' first drive Monday night, Rodgers was injured and helped off the field by trainers. After a visit to the blue medical tent, he was carted to the locker room. After initially being labeled as questionable to return with an ankle injury, he was later downgraded to out. The Jets announced that his X-rays were negative.
Rodgers suffered the injury after being sacked by veteran pass rusher Leonard Floyd on a first-and-10 with 11:40 remaining in the first quarter. While it appeared at first that Rodgers was OK, he went back down to the turf while officials stopped play.

— ESPN (@espn) September 12, 2023 Trainers attended to Rodgers before helping him off the field while former No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson replaced Rodgers under center. Coach Saleh told reporters after the game that Wilson will be the guy moving forward.
According to SportsLine's projections, if Rodgers were to miss the remainder of the season, New York's chances of success would naturally take a major hit.
Rodgers, of course, was arguably the story of the NFL offseason, as the Green Bay Packers legend was dealt to the Jets for a first-round pick, second-round pick, sixth-round pick and a conditional 2024 second-round pick. The conditional second-round pick becomes a first-rounder if Rodgers plays 65% of the snaps in 2023.
The Jets were searching for consistency at the quarterback position, and landed a Super Bowl champion, five-time All-Pro and 10-time Pro Bowler. However, New York's football hopes and dreams have been put on hold until we learn more about the injury Rodgers sustained.
There’s always Copperfit...
He’s done. Canton awaits.
🤦♂️👍...........................
Coming back from an achilles injury is a long, slow process, especially at Rodgers' age.

It was a very great game with some very outstanding plays. Some comments made me feel that Rodgers inspired the Jets to believe in themselves and his exit did nothing but enhance that belief. The game winning overtime punt returners comments specifically showed that.
Four plays and done, the TV talking heads will be stupid this week.
Great defense, very good running game, but now with a QB in Zach Wilson who is awful. 8-9 win season, with Aaron Rodgers coming back next year. Matthew Stafford or Blake Bortles coming in?
If it’s a torn Achilles it’s likely his career.
I agree. His age in recovering will be a big factor. I saw a younger athlete take quite some time to recover from his Achilles tear.
What team would even bother with him now? It’s over. Just like when Unitas went to the Chargers.
No, you’re right. It’s over for Rodgers. Even if he recovers, he would always be the back up. Time to retire.
Lol...no.
Cousins would be a better fit
A a Packers fan, I despise Rodgers for the way we acted in his last several seasons in GB.
I wanted to see him get his butt handed to him last night. I wanted the Bills to really knock him around.
But I didn’t wanna see an Achilles tear. That’s bad.
Rodgers looked old and slow in the few plays before the injury. I think he’s done.
FYI, YouTube has a 15 minute recap of the entire NFL game on this am. This is regular YouTube. They show every major play of them game. I watched the recap this morning.
Allen threw three picks. All to the same Jet. The Bills tying field goal hit the left upright and went through to tie the game and send it to overtime.
Something is wrong with Allen, he faded last year, and it has carried over.
The officials missed an obvious leg whip penalty on that play.
I swear the zebras check their brains at the gate when they enter Met Life Stadium in New Jersey. The Jets and Giants are 6-point favorites there instead of the usual 3 points for home-field advantage.
