Biden's beer ban: Americans may be urged to have just one drink a week under new plans

Americans may be urged to drink no more than one or two beers weekly as part of stricter new alcohol guidelines.

President Biden's alcohol czar, George Koob, the director for the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAA), told Dailymail.com that the USDA could change its Alcohol laws to match Canada, where people are advised to drink that drink per week.

He said: "If there are health benefits, I think people will start evaluating where we're at (In the US).

" Currently, the US recommends that women have up to one bottle of beer, a small glass of wine, or a shot of spirits a day, while men can have up to two. The US guidelines also say a drink is defined as containing 0.6 fluid ounces of alcohol, equivalent to one beer, one glass of wine at 12 percent alcohol, or one shot.

"I mean, they're not going to go up, I'm pretty sure," Koob said. "So if (Alcohol consumption) goes in any direction, it would be toward Canada."

While many believe that alcohol is good in low dosages, Dr. Koob said there are no benefits to physical health from drinking alcohol. "Most of the benefits people attribute to alcohol, we feel they really have more to do with what someone's eating rather than what they're drinking," he explained. "So it really has to do with the Mediterranean diet, socio-economic status, that makes you able to afford that kind of diet and make your own fresh food and so forth.

I don’t drink. It’s a choice. I discovered in college that I tended to overdo it; so mastered it, so it would never master me

But, in Texas it was a cultural thing to do, to offer your neighbor a beer and have a conversation in the shade every now and then. So I kept a case in the fridge, and once a week or so, I would offer a beer and have a few sips of mine with my neighbors. Amazing folk, I miss those times.

But, today offering a neighbor a Bud Light would probably be a very grave insult. At a minimum it would do serious damage to a community relationship.

That is such a catastrophic marketing blunder; there is no recovery

Another way to prevent people from receiving medical care simply because of your poor health habits... or insurance coverage paid if you are a drinker. Follow the money and reason for legislation.

Makes perfect sense. It takes a lot of fossil fuels to produce the ingredients to make beer, wine, spirits. Reduce consumption, reduce greenhouse gas, save the planet...SMFH.

“Don’t presume you can speak for others.”

Not speaking for others at all, it is a personal statement of truth in factual historical observation.

Just watch... It has happened before.

“Good... They don’t need to sin anyhow! And if allowed to do it then is just fine to tax the hell out of them for doing it.”

What about all the revenue from sin taxes? The annual amount is nothing to sneeze at.

Anyone who would take away your gas furnaces and stoves certainly wouldn’t stop at taking your libations.

This tyranny needs to be nipped in the bud.

Biden’s being run by the same people who ran Obama. They’ve all gotten much worse since then and it shows.

Well, President? Biden and AG Garland can’t have Jack Smith indict President Trump for going over the limit, because President Trump doesn’t drink. I’m sure the thought crossed their miniature brains and they discussed it, tho.

Those were different times and yes, you WERE attempting to speak for others! Yet NOBODY on this thread ( or even on all of FR ) would agree with this stupidity, I bet.

These idiots want to hand out free crack pipes and have drug dens for the addicted, but proclaim ONE BEER A WEEK? Sheer insanity, which not even an early PROHIBITIONIST would have gone for!

Small history lesson....the Abolitionists had two desires : to get rid of slavery and either curb or get rid alcohol.

WHY ALCOHOL?

There really was a big problem with drunks, then, came the immigrants whose culture was different AND the fact that a lot of men would go to a beer hall/bar at the end of the week and spend most to all of their meager pay on getting drunk. Resulting is wife and/or physical abuse, inability to feed the family, etc.! Yes, there's more to it than that, but that was the major reasons behind it all, as well as some who were also on a "morals" crusade.

And it took almost 100 years for PROHIBITION to get installed.

I've been ignoring USDA guidance on alcohol drinking my whole life. I'm not going to start abiding by them now.

And what "Alcohol laws" are they talking about? Are they going to limit my purchases? Give me "booze chits"?

The Soviets tried that. Russians then made bathtub vodka. A few folks went blind. Some died. The Soviets nixed the idea.
