Three individuals still at large after assaulting 68-year-old woman (Source: Rincon Police Department) (Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) A Georgia woman, Donna Hansbrough, aged 68, was terminated from her job at Lowe’s after taking matters into her own hands to stop three brazen shoplifters who had stolen thousands of dollars worth of merchandise.
Hansbrough had been a dedicated employee at the company for 13 years until the incident occurred. According to Lowe’s, her termination was based on her violation of company policy against personally restraining shoplifters, even though her intentions were to prevent theft.
In an interview with the Effingham Herald, Hansbrough recounted the harrowing experience. She explained, “They say that if you see somebody stealing something out the door, not to pursue, not to go out. I lost it.” She further added, “I grabbed the cart. I don’t actually remember going out but I did. And I grabbed the cart that had the stolen items in [it].”
During the incident, one of the alleged perpetrators allegedly punched the 68-year-old woman in the face three times, causing her to sustain a black eye and injuries.
Law enforcement officials are currently searching for the accused perpetrators – Takyah Berry, Joseph Berry, and Jamar Lawton. They have released photos of these individuals and called on the community to report any sightings or information related to their whereabouts.
Responding to her termination, Hansbrough expressed her shock, saying, “didn’t expect to get terminated, maybe a reprimand or a suspension. I just got tired of seeing things get out the door. I just, I lost it. I basically lost all the training. Everything they tell you to do, I just…I just lost it.”
Hansbrough began her career at Lowe’s as a cashier and was later promoted to live-nursery specialist, showcasing her extensive experience in the field. However, she most recently worked as a customer service associate in the plans department before she was abruptly terminated.
Despite the traumatic incident, Hansbrough remains resilient and determined to find a new job. She asserted, “I can’t sit at home. I’m not that type of person,” and expressed her willingness to testify if law enforcement requires her cooperation.
Though she is still in the process of recovering from her injuries, there has been a decrease in the swelling around her eye since the incident occurred.

Boomers Rule!
Some high-crime area stores used to do that... pay local cops to work an off-shift detail, in uniform, where they mostly monitored the check-out lines and exit doors. More and more, they're using passive measures like security cages for high-value merchandise instead.
Make it hurt.
Have them check it all out and then, “oops...I forgot my debit card. I’ll be right back.”
Seems like there was a similar story recently about a store security employee somewhere who got sacked over similar actions. The entire structure is rotten.
No... Sometimes sarcasm comes shining through in my aura!! That being said, I highly doubt that is her natural hair color. Purple is not natural... Auburn is very rare. At her age her natural color is most likely more gray...
No. They will just move to residential thefts, burglaries and home invasions in the suburbs. They're coming. It's just a matter of time.
Probably not but of the thief’s got hurt it’s my understanding that the store could have been sued. That’s why they don’t want their employees trying to stop them, in case something bad happens.
I wonder how shoplifting numbers compare to membership stores like Costco. We may see a lot more membership stores in the future.
The problem with having employees unlock the gates is that the thugs will have no problem assaulting or even shooting the employees. Imagine being grievously injured or even murdered for a minimum wage job?
Their odds of themselves getting perforated goes up substantially at that point.......................
If she was working at a drug store or arts supply store, I still would think it insane for an old woman to try to personally stop three young men. And yes, if they’re criminals they could be shoplifting anything anywhere. Arts supplies stores have LOTS of stuff for criminals to enjoy: spray paint, inhalants, sharps,...
Exactly, lawyers and civil lawsuits ruined a lot of aspects of normal society. This is one of those aspects. If the employee is hurt or killed the company can be sued for $$$$. So they point to this policy and how it is enforced with zero tolerance. Likewise, any innocent bystanders getting caught up in it.
Freegards
I agree. It’s probably a dye job. But the color, though rare, appears naturally. Hence This Guy’s use of the word “legit”. SR, can this poor pummeled woman be forgiven?
I see both lowes and home depot allow shoplifting. There is a report of the same two men who have raided the power tools section of Home depot taking over 30k worth of tools. They do not even allow the employees to call the cops. So screw em. If it wasn’t u ethical I would just buy my tools from the perps when they are sold on craigslist.
Guaranteed the coos would be there is the perps were white.
Yes!! Lol... I’ll stop kicking her hospital bed for now..
Can’t argue, can’t disagree. Rent-a-cops everywhere watching with horror as their industry dries up. As the Bad Orange Man would say: Sad!
You’re one of the good ones, Stimpy (sit-rempy?)
May your chains rest lightly. You may not be in shackles physically, but your mind is already lost to fear and malaise.
