I was visiting an older friend and one of his friends had a new bull-pup style rifle when they first came out (20 years ago now??) The guy was showing it off and passed it to another guy that was there.
I said “Excuse me - can you open up the receiver so I know it’s not loaded?”
The guy (30 years my senior, and rich) yelled at me. “What the hell - you think I would pass around a loaded gun - you think I’m a f-ing idiot?”
I looked at my friend and said “I think I’ll be going, talk to you later” and walked away.
The law enforcement types that I have seen at the local sportsmen’s club come in a week or so to practice before they have to qualify. The club allows them to use ranges for free. They need to practice more often. Most are very poor marksmen. They handle their weapons awkwardly. I get the feeling that they rarely remove their weapons from their holsters.
