CNN — A 79-year-old Florida man was bitten by a nearly 7-foot-long alligator Thursday morning at a golf course in Naples, according to local authorities.
The man told deputies he was on a walk at the Forest Glen and Golf Course community, where he lives, shortly after 5:00 a.m. Thursday when an alligator came up and bit him in the leg, according to a Facebook post from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.
“I’m bleeding. I don’t know how bad it is. It’s profuse,” the man told a 911 dispatcher, according to an audio recording of the call. “There’s a lot of skin ripped off I can see, probably some muscle.”
“Go figure. Out for a walk to stay healthy,” the 79-year-old joked.
A responding police officer gave the man first aid and he was flown to a local hospital via medical helicopter for treatment, according to the Facebook post.
A second responding deputy spotted the alligator leaving the scene and kept watch on the reptile, which was later trapped and removed from the golf course community. According to the sheriff’s office, the alligator is a 6 foot 9 inch female.
The office urged residents to be cautious around bodies of water and vegetation where alligators may nest, as it is currently alligator mating season.

My aunt said to run crooked....I stayed inside....
The old people[ People in the 39s, 40s, and50s] used to kill them. They were no problem. Then came the 80s and the hippies and dopers took over and things are like they are now.
I rally think we’re stupid...Get rid of the damn things...make shoes...
I agree. I was born and raised in Turkey Creek , Florida. And neither I or anyone around where I was raised never saw an alligator. And we went in the rivers, the creeks, the phosphate pits. We fished, we swam. The reason we never saw an alligator nor were attacked by one is that the old people had killed them. Some cooked and ate them and some made things from their hides. But no children, no adults, no live stock were killed or lost to them. Then the hippies and dopers took over and things changed.
You are probably right about early walking to beat the heat. The bad news is that alligators tend to be nocturnal, sunbathing and snoozing during the day, hunting for elderly northern immigrants come nightfall.
Is that jo brandon’s body double?
Per the Federal Register:
The American alligator first received protection under Federal law in 1967 when it was listed as endangered throughout its range under the Endangered Species Preservation Act of 1966 (32 FR 4001, March 11, 1967), a predecessor to the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended (16 U.S.C. 1531 et seq. (Act, ESA)). Its endangered classification was transferred to the Act effective December 28, 1973, (Pub. L. 93-205, 1, Dec. 28, 1973, 87 Stat. 884).
They make good luggage.
Thanks.
Die by heat stroke, alligators, poisonous snakes, spiders and other various “wildlife” in Florida? That’s a big reason we left and moved to Alaska. Now I only have to worry about freezing to death (would be peaceful), bear attack (would be swift). Just sayin.
Aren’t you afraid of the snow snakes and ice worms? /s
Most of these alligator attacks seem to involve the elderly. Is it because they don’t move fast enough to get away, or is there so significant a loss in situational awareness that the elderly don’t understand the danger they are in? (Like walking your dog next to an alligator infested pond....)
