Beer industry 'in shock' that Bud Light backlash continues as expert warns of supply shortages of rival lagers
Fox News ^ | 5/24/23 | Brian Flood

The entire beer industry is floored that Bud Light is still taking heat over its now-infamous promo with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney and the backlash has put rival beers in high demand, according to the publisher of prominent trade publication Beer Business Daily.

"The whole industry is in shock. Even Bud's competitors aren't really dancing on the grave because they know it could have happened to them," Beer Business Daily editor and publisher Harry Schuhmacher told Fox News Digital.

"This particular promotion just really struck a chord. It was just a bridge too far, apparently, for consumers… we’re in week six and it doesn't look like it's getting any better," he continued. "In fact, the numbers just keep getting a little worse every week… down in the 25% area. And their competitors are up almost just as much, and that's continuing through today."

Schuhmacher, who regularly speaks to beer distributors across North America, believes newfound demand for light lagers that aren’t owned by Anheuser-Busch could result in a trickle-down effect on the industry. Molson Coors, the parent company of both Coors Light and Miller Lite, might not even be able to supply enough beer as Americans enter a holiday weekend that unofficially kicks off the start of summer.

"You can't just flip a switch and make beer. You know, beer is brewed. It takes, you know, at least a couple of weeks to make. So, they haven't had major supply issues yet, but we're about to hit Memorial Day and we could probably see some supply shortages there," Schuhmacher said.

Molson Coors told Fox News Digital there are no out-of-stock concerns ahead of Memorial Day Weekend because inventory was built up over the winter.

So have they fired the marketing geniuses behind the trans partnership yet? Last I recall they were on (paid) leave of absences...

Well....Even if they lose 25% every week. They will still be selling some.

AB products have typically been lousy. I don’t know why anyome drinks Bud, BL, Busch, etc. Bud and BL are not cheap. The only one decent is Michelob.

Michelob was discontinued in 2006 except for a limited run in 2020. Michelob Ultra and Amber Bock are the only ones made now I think, and Michelob Ultra is horrid crap. It's completely undrinkable swill that they've managed to sell a bunch of to fat housewives who think it'll make them skinny.

It's not like AB makes anything that isn't easily replaceable. Some companies can get by with stupid stunts like this and still come out OK because they have a market niche that isn't easily filled. There are dozens of mediocre light lagers on the market that can easily take the place of Bud Light and no one will bat an eye though. When it's 100 degrees out on the 4th of July and you're on the lake one light beer will make you piss as well as another, as long as they're cold no one can really tell one from another. There's no reason for anyone to pick the one that makes you think of some fag in a dress rolling around in a bathtub showing his deep throating skills.

This land mine has actually been out there for some time, and BL just happened to be the poor schmucks who stepped on it. They’re going to pay the price - I don’t mean “have been”, I mean it’s going to get worse. Six billion buckaroos down in market cap over the first week, eleven billion at the present time. That’s an avalanche. And the pebble that started it was a silly-ass aluminum can with a female impersonator on it. To be fair, Dylan Mulvaney did nothing wrong but what HE was paid to do. And rightly, the blame has been put where it belongs, on arrogant corporate drones who thought they’d been handed the keys to driving their entire society into some dimly-imagined new age. This, my little preppie Ivy League goddesses, is what reality looks like. More to come, my dears, more to come.

So, it's stale skunky beer. Yum.

Business schools teach about “cost of change”. When it comes to cheap beer, there are numerous alternatives to Bud Light that buyers can change to with no impact. Price, quality, taste, availability, etc are all equal and that’s what is making this boycott effective.

Yeungling is a decent lager, and a patriotic family owned American company. Around these parts (southern PA) when you ask for a lager in a bar, they know you mean a Yeungling. They’re starting to spread to other parts of the country too.

In my grocery store today, an 18-pack of bud lite was about $17.95

And a 36-pack was 19.95. (If you buy 2).

A significant number don’t even know this happened. Just like Cuties with Netflix - only a teardrop of their subscribers even knew that happened.

Who the hell drinks American beer? Seriously.
I proudly only stick real deal German imported in or else a special home brew from my nephew who is badass when it comes to making beer and bottling.

Ughhhhh Cancer in a bottle. Can’t take anyone who drinks American beer seriously when it comes to knowledge of good beer.

They caught my attention when they took on the Teamsters and won. Since I live in Western Pa, it is also the standard beer here. They seem to be good guys, I’m glad they’re doing well and expanding into new states.

Shows how often I drink AB products, I didn’t even know Michelob was discontinued. I did have Mich Ultra a few years back and remember it giving me a pretty bad headache. I’ve been a Miller Lite drinker forever and it works just fine for me. You’re right though, they’re all about the same.

They’re readily available here in North Georgia. At my closest bar on tap, which happens to be at a golf course bar and grill. Pretty acceptable stuff for mass market beer.

I beg to differ

Where did joe bipden get those ‘more votes’?

The beer co was counting on the majority liking that kid..wrong.

You and others think biden got votes..the only ones who voted for bim are those who dont have a tv and dont know who he is.

Target missread the public also.. had to move their lgbwhatever, to back of store.

We out here have had a belly full of sick new fads that only destroy the youth and are totally unwanted.

Get a clue!(

I like beer.
My VA doctor does liver tests every year
to verify I don’t have liver cirrhosis.
I never drink any Budweiser product.
I have never liked their product or their politics.
My favorite beer was Henry’s dark, out of business these days.
If I was filthy rich it would be Becks’s Dark.
By the keg.
As it is now I drink the beer I grew up on, Coors Banquet.
All things in moderation.
