Controversial documentary Cleopatra just gave Netflix their “Bud Light” wakeup call…

Netflix’s “Cleopatra” documentary has turned into an epic disaster. The audience despises the “woke” show that absurdly portrays a fair-skinned Greek woman as an “African queen.” Adding fuel to the fire, critics have also slammed it, labeling the documentary a complete failure, falling even below the quality of cheesy afternoon soap operas. It’s an embarrassing flop that leaves you scratching your head, wondering why Netflix would humor Jada Pinkett Smith’s inner racist and air such utter trash.

On the flip side, Elizabeth Taylor’s rendition of Cleopatra came remarkably close to capturing the essence of the legendary figure.

Beauty Flashback: Elizabeth Taylor, Cleopatra

Naturally, the liberal critics conveniently avoided addressing the absurd and offensive casting choices, opting instead to criticize the subpar acting and lackluster plotlines.

Daily Mail:

Writing for the Telegraph, Anita Singh said was an ‘over-abundance of former soap stars’ which made the new drama documentary’ a misfire’.

She penned: ‘You’re left wondering why Netflix didn’t just throw another £100 million at it and make a lavish, soapy drama instead of this halfway house.

‘I’ll admit that I now know more about Cleopatra than I did before – narratively it flows well, and does a halfway decent job of explaining why she was such a significant figure.

‘But it’s too soapy for serious history fans, and not enough of a soap for viewers who like juicy historical dramas.’

Looks like the critics almost hit the bullseye for once as the audience score landed at a cringe-worthy 1%, and honestly, that’s still seems too high.

Is Netflix about to have its “Bud Light” moment, where they pump the brakes on the wild woke train and return to delivering entertaining, fact-based historical shows that people actually love?

Probably not…

Hold onto your remote controls! Netflix is ready to take us on an exhilarating rollercoaster ride through the captivating world of cocaine in their upcoming documentary. Brace yourselves for an electrifying blend of eye-opening revelations and addictive storytelling, because when it comes to pushing boundaries, nobody does it quite like Netflix…

Yes, we’re dripping with sarcasm here, but sadly, Netflix would probably jump on board with this idea without a moment’s hesitation.

I re-watched the 1963 film recently with my children and was deeply delighted to be reminded of what a truly great movie it really is.

The 1963 film is:

- Beautifully acted, showing a real decline in Antony, the complexities of the Queen, and much about what made Julius such an important figure,

- Magnificently costumed and designed,

- Quite accurate, to my knowledge, in for instance then Battle of Actium,

- Best of all, a true spectacle of a film!

As an added great, NO CUSS WORDS and PLENTY sexy despite lack of nudity or anything that might make it inappropriate for children.

It is a triumph and worth a long watch with family and friends, FRiends!

The indisputable fact is that the inhabitants of sub-Saharan Africa have almost nothing to show for their entire history on this Earth. They never advanced beyond tribalism and pagan superstition, other than a certain level of modernization that was bestowed on some of those countries via colonization. The notable exceptions are all individuals who took advantage of the advanced civilization of the western world. This is why they’re constantly trying to appropriate the achievements of other civilizations for themselves.

I’m a fan of Isaac Asimov and The Foundation Trilogy (+). When Apple TV announced a Foundation series I was thrilled. Unfortunately, predictably, they ruined it with woke rewrites. I turned it off after 20 minutes.

It was a spectacle and fascinating; but I find it really dated now and too very ‘Hollywood’ of its time.

After these 60 years, I’d like to see a new version, if it didn’t strive to be ‘woke’.

Not sure where that came from. She was good looking enough to get both Julius Caesar and Mark Anthony.

Opera star Maria Callas may have been closer to the mark. Small stature, Greek, with a large nose as a defining facial feature. Extreme intelligence and the legendary wealth of Ptolemaic Egypt were attraction enough for at least two Romans. But she sure as Hell wasn't black. Not even truly Egyptian.

Even today you'll see people on the streets of Cairo with features unlike most Arabs, much less sub-Saharan Africans. People who look like they walked out of a tomb fresco and put on modern clothing. And like actors Omar Sherif and Rami Malek, likely as not Coptic Christians.

If Netflix wanted to be woke, they should have gone with Halle Berry.

Her other skills....WOW! If I mentioned them on FB I might get 30 days in FB jail whereas Free Republic would just have the moderator remove them.

She was known amongst the Roman Senate as “The Gaper”.

In another historical first, the TV series “Queen Charlotte” features 2 black women. Young Charlotte - India Amarteifio & Older Charlotte - Golda Rosheuvel

Is there any historical figure that is not Black?

Word in the slums is that Netflix just picked up Spike Lee’s Lincoln documentary, “Abe from Harlem”.

What she was really good at was Seduction. There’s a lot more to that than mere physical beauty.

(Those men could probably have had any beautiful woman they wanted, and merely beautiful women are often boring in the long run.)

What they really loved was Power.
