A small randomized trial in patients with post-COVID syndrome has found that hyperbaric oxygen therapy promotes restoration of the heart's ability to contract properly.
The study enrolled 60 post-COVID syndrome patients with ongoing symptoms. Both hospitalized and non-hospitalized patients were included. Severe COVID cases were excluded. Patients were randomized to HBOT or a sham procedure in a 1:1 ratio. Each patient had five sessions per week over eight weeks, for a total of 40 sessions.
The HBOT group received 100% oxygen through a mask at a pressure of 2 atmospheres for 90 minutes, with 5 minute air breaks every 20 minutes. The sham group breathed 21% oxygen by mask at 1 atmosphere for 90 minutes. All participants underwent echocardiography at baseline (before the first session) and 1 to 3 weeks after the last session.
Echocardiography was used to assess left ventricular global longitudinal strain (GLS), which is a measure of the heart's ability to contract and relax lengthwise.
At baseline, nearly half of study participants (29 out of 60; 48%) had reduced GLS. Of those, 13 (43%) and 16 (53%) were in the sham and HBOT groups, respectively. The average GLS at baseline across all participants was -17.8%. In the HBOT group, GLS significantly increased from -17.8% at baseline to -20.2% after the intervention (p=0.0001). In the sham group, GLS was -17.8% at baseline and -19.1% after the sessions, with no statistically significant difference between the two measurements.
Professor Leitman said, "It was notable that almost half of long COVID patients had impaired cardiac function at baseline according to GLS despite all participants having a normal ejection fraction, which is the standard method for measuring the heart's ability to contract. This means that ejection fraction is not sensitive enough to identify long COVID patients with reduced heart function."

There are clinics that can provide this, if insurance won’t.
Thanks

I’m a fan of oxygen myself
Thank heavens after testing positive with symptoms of covid, I recovered in day and half (42 hours to be exact) before the China virus could damage organs.
not a ventilator...
I am currently at home on a ventilator. It is set to force feed a constant volume of air plus O2. It varies the prellure with a complex algorythm to do this. It does not use more pressure than naecssary to keep my airways open, Without it, my sleep apnea would continue to be killing me. Look up AVAP technology to see how ventilators function in the present — not during the pandemic.
Appreciate the personal insights.
Ventilators definitely have a flow function value — not disputing that. I hope you’re making progress.
As we progress through our seasoned mortality, the ironic necessity of patience cannot be ignored. Meanwhile, nothing can happen too quickly for our children/grandchildren. lol
God bless, FRiend
APAP is not a ventilator. It does not deliver an O2 concentration higher than room air. The pressures it delivers are nowhere near those of a ventilator. APAP is useful for the treatment of sleep apnea. It is not a treatment for advanced ARDS with severe hypoxemia which requires mechanical ventilation - with a ventilator
I too am addicted to oxygen.
🤔
It’s not just the oxygen, but the removal of CO2 from the body.
This is why ketosis is so good as it facilitates aerobic ATP production in the mitochondria more efficiently and without the CO2 byproduct to contaminate your body.
Sorry to hear about the ventilator. Hope things improve KC.
Stay healthy.
Actually, I had the sleep apnea issue for decades— and it led to a host of health problems that we chalked up to aging— 77 — but since it got bad enough for the MDs to find the problem, I have been getting stronger
Feelng better— like the My Pillow guy says, I am sleeping better
So the ventilator is actually— In my case a g-d send. Thanks for the support.
You are right, but what I meant was I have a ventilator which is set to deliver Average Volume Assured Pressure Support AVAPS.
I also augment the air flow with an O2 concentrator delivering 2,5 L per second of Oxygen. So I keep my O2 concentration level above 90 at night. Without the O2, I can.t keep the O2 level above 90% — although my lungs may be getting better — we will look at this each year, since the O2 is an additional hassle at night. I do plan on having the ventilator for several years as it has been very good at letting me sleep soundly and through the night.
Thanks Gene, I posted other comments on this topic to other posters. The support is appreciated.
i wish you good health and success with your treatment
