Something about the sudden shift in marketing strategy for Bud Light doesn’t pass the smell test.
An iconic brand that, based on some of the best commercials you’ll ever see, never ceased to hit the target of its intended customers has, overnight, decided to abandon those customers and dollars are "fratty and out of touch," and go after… What exactly? We do not really know.
Thomas Lifson showed us the video of Alissa Heinerscheid, vice president of marketing for the Bud Light brand, try to explain her strategy. I am sorry, but when explaining a marketing strategy for beer it seems both intentional as well as awkward and discomforting to see her children’s artwork posted behind her. Beer and children just do not mix.
The result of that strategy should not have been unexpected. Bud Light sales are in the toilet. Overnight. A viral video shows Bud Light sitting untouched in a store’s cooler. 🤣 This is real! I went to my local store, and she said they haven't sold a 12-pack or 30-pack of Bud Light this whole week! #BudLightWentWoke #budlight
I contend, therefore, this was not the biggest blunder in corporate marketing history. Anyone could have seen what was going to happen. To believe this strategy wasn’t market-tested before going full steam ahead is like believing Russia helped Trump win an election, or something like that.
As fast as Bud Light sales tanked, it didn’t take long for Chasten Buttigieg to criticize everyone who boycotted the brand. His tweet: “If you’re upset about a beer company supporting civil rights, you might want to start bottling your tears. LGBTQ people drink water, too. Gonna boycott that next? 11:59 AM · Apr 8, 2023”

This whole scandal is just another shiny object. It’s all so tiresome. So A/B lost some market share, big deal. They’ll gain it back in a few weeks after a new shiny object takes the heat off of Bud Light.
I have the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NASCAR as my evidence this is exactly what will play out.
Procter & Gamble put out a series of ads back in the day featuring “Katie Winters” who was one of the most disliked persons to ever cross the blurry lines on the 1960’s TV Screen, pushing B.O. (deodorant)
The industry learned from this success and never forgot.
About the only thing AB could possibly do to redeem the brand at this point would be to call this whole thing an April Fool’s prank and have an ad blitz with Spuds McKenzie riding on the back of a Clydesdale stomping a sixpack of the Mulvaney cans while singing a, “real men of genius,” jingle emphasizing the, “real men.”
Literally. LOL.
CEOs and high level executives of various corporations, much like politicians, are out of touch with the real world. With the people they’re supposed to serve. It’s been this way for decades now as companies have constantly caved in to the leftist agenda time and again. Not only on this transgender issue, but many other issues. Gun control, affirmative action, climate change, the homosexual agenda, etc.
They weren’t thinking.
Kael was aware that she was living in a bubble and was commenting on that.
They weren’t thinking - they were being stupid woke libtards which doesn’t involve coherent thought
They were thinking ... look at us! We are so progressive. Like all good progressives , taking a sledgehammer to something that wasn’t broken is a necessity.
Trump won based on what he was saying. He got lots of media attention because the media was trying to destroy him.
The Bud Light transgender initiative was done because of stupidity. These people are not infallible.
Dumb artice.
I have an ex lady friend who majored in ‘diversity’ back in the late 90s/early 2000s, before that became all the rage. The stated goal was to establish ‘diversity managers’ in corporate America so as to help brands appeal to a broader market. That was the ruse. She truly believed in what she was doing. She was a socialist and believes to this day that socialism is a decent goal, whatever it takes to achieve it, whatever that is.
Now companies are inundated with these ‘managers’, who are nothing better than the political officers so common in all aspects of life in communist countries. Instead of beards, fatigues and rifles, they wear suits.
But we still fall for their deception and keep calling them ‘liberals’, ‘progressives’, etc.
Not thinking
Just drinking
Woke Kool-Aid.
They should double down with The Lumberjack Song from Monty Python. /S
Look at us. We lost $4 billion in market cap in a week!!
Yes. Once one leftist is in HR it can be a real problem.
We need a purge in companies of evangelical leftists. They can go "work" in a commune somewhere.
What were they thinking? They weren’t.
Similar to the political officers in the Soviet military.
How ‘bout a Queer Beer!
“If you’re upset about a beer company supporting civil rights, you might want to start bottling your tears.”
Civil rights my a$$. Stay away from children or things will get ugly. We can live and let live….can you? Because we normies will protect our children from queers. Those woketards taking their kids to queer shows are just as evil. See the one from yesterday where a tranny walks in to a convenience store carrying an axe and chops two people. Accept those deranged morons at your own risk. I for one, will not tolerate such idiocy.
The posits that companies don’t make these mistakes and there is something afoot. Wait for the next shoe to drop.
But the author also points out that some people still think the New Coke was marketing genius.
