Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday signed into law a $711 million plan to make housing more affordable for working Floridians. A priority of Senate President Kathleen Passidomo, the “Live Local Act,” will more than double funding for housing and rental programs, provide incentives for investment in affordable housing and encourage mixed-use developments in struggling commercial areas.
“As demand is high to move to a place like Florida, it makes it more challenging for folks to be able to afford,” DeSantis said during a bill-signing event in Naples. “I think this is the biggest effort that's ever been done in the history of Florida.”

Oh my. Kind of sounds like prep for 15 min cities.
Passidomo, R-Naples, said the goal is to make it possible for people to afford to live in neighborhoods where they work.

and an additional $100 million for the Hometown Heroes program, which is designed to help teachers, health care workers and police officers buy homes. This is a crap provision. Teachers are paid well, as are health care workers and police officers.
Some things in the bill are good.

It will take a lot more than $711 million to make affordable casitas for the folks who are members of the servant class in Naples. Methinks his idea is for the money to be spent elsewhere.

Any time government tries to make something affordable, it’s really government interference into the free-market system, no matter what political side is doing it. It never ends well.

From what I saw of Naples, there isn't much of a middle class. Many if not most of the roads are private and pristine. Subdivisions a well-manicured and expensive. If there is another side of Naples, I haven't seen it.

Housing is a supply issue. A large part of the potential rental market is NOT on the market because of their purchase by hedge funds etc.

Some things in the bill are good. If a bill takes money from hard working Americans to support others, it is not good. Don’t forget that every dollars government spends comes with a high overhead to run the program. So these programs are a high waste of taxpayers money.
Read today the ObamaCare (Affordable Care Act) which was to lowers the cost of medical treatment for all with a “keep your doctor” lie, actually doubled the cost of health insurance for hardworking Americans. So there’s an idea with the best intentions ruined by government.
