The near-Earth object, called 2023 EY, has been posted on NASA’s asteroid database and listed as one of the next five asteroid approaches.
Scientists estimate it is about 54 feet wide.
A near-Earth object is classified as any space object that can come within 30 million miles of Earth.
This asteroid’s closest Earth approach is roughly 149,000 miles.

Dammit!
Cmon idiots. The moon is 1/4 million miles away. So this is 120 times that.
Misread posting. Sorry.
That’s a close one!
One of those (big) puppies has our name on it most likely due before the century is over, but those of us in Christ will be watching from the heavenly Mezzanine.
Don’t get many inside moon’s orbit.
Didn’t the article say 149000 thousand...and the moon is 260000 or so? That is really close in astronomical terms.
I had read the 30 million # first. My bad.
We know our world is full of media ‘Crying Wolf’ over anything.
The NASA programs to focus on minorities, LGBT, diversity, inclusiveness, islamophobuaia, and general wokidity can give us great confidence about anything it says or does, about dangerous objects...
Wouldn’t it burn up? Being only the size of a house?
Misread title and was about to get excited, but really it would be great if it was the right size for that whole district.
Between us and the moon - seems pretty close to me.
What sort of damage would be done if it hit the earth?
I suppose the probabilities are that it would hit in one of the oceans, but still ...
Depends on the size of the house I guess.
Moon is 250,000. 149,000 is a bit closer.
God throwing rocks at us as a wake up call?.
The one that exploded over Russia bit back was something like 30 to 60 feet I think. They were lucky. A house sized asteroid that impacted would pulverize everything in a half mile radius...plus of course tons of damage outside that.
Yep, inside the moon’s orbit.
On top of that, nobody saw the Chelyabinsk meteor coming. It was a complete surprise.
